*Last Month*

3 days short of 2 years since my last competition, thanks to covid and an injury late last year.
Naive performance in the Gi, gave away 4 avoidable points in a 4-2 loss that I felt I controlled for the most part. But at least he went on to smash everyone else on his way to the final.
Better in No-Gi, ended up losing in the final to a decent player.
At least I’ve got a platform to push off of now and hopefully wiped away some of the rust and nerves.

Re-drilling stand up during lock down, if I can’t grapple I’ll have to strike!

Human Ukes only slow you down.

For the sake of a few quid it’s an effective way of increasing hand speed, reaction time and footwork. More practice definitely needed

Whilst we’re all short on Ukes, here are a few alternatives to the classic Uchi Komi with bands.

🥇 🥉 🥇 First competition of the year was a BJJ one, 3 weeks ago. Gold in the Gi, then Bronze in the absolute (but at least I learnt another thing not to do if I want to avoid penalties). Then after 40 minutes Gi fighting went on to the No-Gi against some fresh boys and with 3 more fights took Gold in that too. Over an hour of fight time in total!

7 fights, 7 wins in open weight at the Samurai High Grades. 6 straight Ippons: 4 throws 2 submissions. Beat 1 Bronze medalist in the pool beat the other in the semi and then won the final all of which had between 15 and 35kg on me. Good performances from everyone else as well

A bit of footage from the Welsh Open last weekend. Not the result I wanted but a couple decent results and it’s the first ranking competition this year I’ve actually been able to complete due to injury

A couple throws from before I popped my ribs at the Western Area Open last week, all the more annoying since I’ve been feeling good in training the last few weeks
