Day 78 of the - Creative Challenges 🧠

One leg balance!

Work individually or with a partner to find the best way to pick up an object that is far away from your base of support while maintaining your balance.

Use a wall or partner for support to make it easier or an uneven surface to make it harder.

You could even try with eyes closed and responding to feedback from a partner.

Next up in the - we're getting Creative!

We'll be visiting our 12 core skills and getting creative with each one. This helps children to think openly and creatively about a skill and try it in a different way, which in turn helps them apply and adapt the skill in different ways.

Day 77 of the - Cognitive Challenges 🧠

Ball Chasing!

In a pair, both roll a ball in opposite directions, turn and chase and try to retrieve each other’s ball at the same time/over the same distance from where you started.

To add challenge and variety, see if you can change your start and finish positions and add turns and ‘tunnels’.

Day 76 of the - Cognitive Challenges 🧠

Reaction/ Response!

In a pair, take turns as ‘dropper’ and ‘catcher’. The ‘dropper’ drops 2 balls at slightly different times and the ‘catcher’ has to try to catch both balls after 1 bounce.

Progress to dropping 2 different coloured balls with the ‘catcher’ responding by catching the colour called (1 ball) or catching both colours in the order called (2 balls).

You could also think about changing the size of the ball(s), the distance and/or catch with 1 hand (dominant/non-dominant) to challenge yourself.

You could also play by catching the opposite colour(s) called and could also play competitively with your partner in a points game.

Day 75 of the - Cognitive Challenges 🧠

Sending and Receiving!

In a pair, mark out a playing area and each simultaneously roll/throw/kick/strike a ball against a wall and collect each other’s rebound before it leaves the playing area.

You can also turn this into a competitive game getting a point each time you manage to collect a ball, with the aim of gaining the most points.

Day 74 of the - Cognitive Challenges 🧠

Jumping and landing!

Doing today's challenge on your own? Come up with different ways to combine 5 different types of jump. Next, identify which order helps you achieve the greatest distance.

In a pair? As above and, when you’re ready, try and perform your jumps together, working on your timing and synchronisation.

Remember every child is different, if you'd like to step the challenge up a bit, try any combination of 5 jumps to see which helps you achieve the greatest distance. You can use the same jump more than once. If you need a bit more support, stick to one type of jump and shorten the distance of travel.

Day 73 of the - Cognitive Challenges 🧠

Dynamic Balance.

Doing the challenge on your own? Working on a line/piece of string, practise different Dynamic Balance challenges. Film yourself doing so, watch the film back and either match (travel exactly the same), mirror (travel as a mirror image) or contrast with (do the opposite) the movements on screen.

In a pair? As above, but take turns to be ‘leader’ and ‘follower’ with the ‘follower’ either mirroring, matching or contrasting the leader’s movements.

Remember every child is different, if you'd like to step the challenge up a bit, turn it into a competitive game, with your balances trying to unbalance your partner's. If you need a bit more support, try static balance first before adding movement in.

Day 72 of the - Cognitive Challenges 🧠

Stance!

Doing the challenge on your own? Balance on a line/string/rope and come up with as many different shapes as you can while staying balanced.

In a pair? Like in the video, play against your partner, taking turns to perform a different move until one of you repeats or is unable to come up with a different move. Both start with 10 lives and the player with the most lives remaining wins.

Remember every child is different, if you'd like to step the challenge up a bit, make all your poses tricky balances. If you need a bit more support, keep your poses nice and steady or remain seated.

Day 71 of the - Cognitive Challenges 🧠

Floor Work!

In a pair, face each other in a front support. While maintaining the position, try to ‘tap’ your partner’s hand before they tap yours.

Score a point each time you succeed and then reset the game after each point. The game could be played ‘first to’ or ‘best of’.

Remember every child is different, if you'd like to step the challenge up a bit, try lifting a leg off the floor too! If you need a bit more support, keep your knees on the floor.
