🎣 Chesil Beach Conditions
Thursday 17th September

Chesil is looking breezy but improving today, with a fresh westerly wind this morning gradually easing through the evening.

The wind starts W at around 20 mph at 10am, with gusts reaching 25 mph. It then turns WNW and stays between 18 and 22 mph through the afternoon, with gusts generally around 22 to 24 mph.

The strongest average wind is around 4pm at 22 mph. From there it gradually eases, dropping to around 14 to 15 mph later this evening.

There should still be a good amount of movement on Chesil through the daytime, particularly around the morning high and into the afternoon.

There is just a small amount of rain showing around 10am, then it remains dry. Cloud breaks considerably through late morning and early afternoon before becoming heavier again later.

Temperatures rise from 17°C this morning to around 19°C through the middle of the day, before dropping quickly to around 11°C tonight.

Pressure slowly rises from around 1012 mb to 1015 mb.

The wider Met Office outlook also has early rain clearing to leave brighter spells, with most of the day staying dry but breezy.

Some of the best local fishing we have seen for a while at the moment, with a brilliant mix of species showing across Weymouth and Portland.

Chesil Beach has been fishing really well, with plenty of good black bream, some excellent bass fishing on the lures and lots of mackerel showing. Gurnards, a few codling and some good sole are also being caught. Squid are now showing in good numbers on the lures too.

Weymouth Harbour is fishing well, with loads of mini species to target, plus some really good bass and some big conger eels showing into darkness.

Stone Pier has been producing garfish, mackerel, scad, plenty of squid, and some really nice wrasse and bream.

⚠️ Please note: Pleasure Pier is currently closed, and there is work taking place at the very end of Stone Pier.

Preston Beach is also fishing well, with sole, flounder, bass and small eyed rays showing into darkness. There is also a good chance of red mullet, gurnards and gilthead bream.

Portland Harbour is fishing well on the lures for bass around Ferrybridge and the Fleet, with some nice gilthead bream still showing too.

Plenty to go at right across the area at the moment, so get out and make the most of it.

Wednesday 16th September

A dry and fairly settled day on Chesil today, with a moderate north west breeze this morning gradually turning more westerly through the afternoon.

The wind starts NW at around 13 to 14 mph this morning, with gusts reaching 18 mph. Around lunchtime it turns WNW and remains fairly steady at around 13 to 14 mph.

Through the afternoon the breeze becomes W at around 13 to 14 mph. It then moves back WNW during the evening and increases slightly to around 15 mph, with gusts reaching 17 to 18 mph.

There should be some movement on Chesil throughout the day, but nothing particularly extreme from the wind speeds showing.

It stays completely dry throughout the forecast period.

The morning starts bright with very little cloud, but cloud gradually increases through lunchtime and the afternoon. By late afternoon and evening skies become much more overcast.

Temperatures rise from 14°C at 9am to around 18°C through the afternoon, before dropping quite quickly to around 11°C later this evening.

Pressure remains fairly steady around 1019 to 1022 mb.

A grey, drizzly morning at Chesil Cove, with some surface chop and a noticeable shore break washing up the shingle.

☀️ Although the forecast shows no measurable rainfall, there is drizzle around this morning. Brighter skies are forecast towards midday, with sunshine this afternoon and temperatures reaching 21°C.

Chesil Beach Conditions Report

Chesil is looking quite lively this morning. The sea has a noticeable swell running with plenty of white water along the shoreline. With the wind coming from the WSW, conditions are likely to remain unsettled through much of the day.

Winds are currently around 15 mph gusting 21 mph, increasing slightly through the late morning and afternoon to around 16 to 17 mph with gusts of 22 to 23 mph. The wind should begin easing from early evening, dropping to around 8 to 10 mph later tonight.

It should remain dry throughout the day, with temperatures reaching around 21°C. Cloud will stay fairly extensive, although there could be some brighter spells around lunchtime and early afternoon. Pressure remains steady at 1023 mb.

Friday 11th September

A much calmer and brighter day on Chesil today, with light to moderate westerly winds and dry conditions throughout.

The wind starts W at around 9 mph at 8am, then turns WNW through the morning at around 9 to 10 mph.

Through the afternoon the breeze remains mainly W at around 8 to 10 mph, increasing slightly to WSW at 12 mph around 5pm.

The wind then gradually eases through the evening, turning WNW, NNW and N. By 9pm onwards it is only around 7 to 8 mph.

There should be considerably less wind driven movement on Chesil today compared with yesterday.

It stays completely dry throughout the forecast period.

Skies are clear and sunny through much of the morning. Cloud becomes more variable around lunchtime and later in the afternoon, but there should still be plenty of brighter spells. The wider forecast also supports sunny intervals across the Weymouth area today.

Temperatures rise from 14°C at 8am to around 22°C during the afternoon, before dropping back to around 12°C later tonight.

Pressure gradually rises from 1018 mb this morning to around 1024 mb tonight.
