Hanmer Tennis Club

Results update - the rain held off and we went to play Market Drayton on Thursday evening. Paul & Xander lost a close first rubber 6-4, 6-4 but continued to play well in their 2nd match, taking the win 6-3, 6-2. Andrew and Nick, in their first outing this season, took a while to get going; they lost the first match but played well in their 2nd against the number 1 pair, losing 6-4, 6.-2. Overall a 3-1 loss but looking forward to turning the tables in the return match!

Our 2026/27 membership year started on the 1st May.

We've kept our prices at the same incredible value - that's £60 for an adult for a whole year of tennis, £20 for 11-17s and those in full time education, only £10 for children 10 and under. We've also added a family membership for £120.

We have 2 well-maintained all-weather hard courts and floodlights and we play all year round. We have clubnights in the week, Shropshire league team matches through the summer and a few club competitions through the year. Our current membership numbers means there's no issue with finding a court available.

If you want to come and say 'hi' before joining, please come along to a club night on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm and have a hit.

We had a wonderful Margaret Heath competition on Wednesday evening with plenty of members competing and perfect weather.

The Margaret Heath 2026 Competition is being held this Wednesday, 20th May.
All members (and those just about to join) are invited to take part.

It starts at 6.30pm, bring your racket and a little food & drink to share amongst all the players.

Playing doubles, you'll earn a point for each game you win, swapping partners every 4 games, so you'll get to play with lots of different people against lots of different people.

In between, tuck into the food, catch up with friends, and make some new ones!

The Summer League is under way and the Men's first team (we only have one this year 😢) have already played their first game. It didn't go the way we wanted, losing 3-1, but it was a great evening of tennis, fantastic opponents and really good food and drink at The Hanmer Arms .

Our next match, vs Woodfield of Shrewsbury, is tomorrow night, Thursday 14th, assuming the weather is kind to us. Please come down and support us!
