Great effort today from everyone against a decent Audlem team played in an exemplary and very friendly and happy manner.
Big thank you for Max for getting all the Cheshire boys to come and play for us and for Will for the Wellington lads.
Calverhall won the toss and invited Audlem to bat first.
Ryleigh Rowe opened the bowling and bowled some lovely balls finishing with figures of 6 overs 40/1.
Steady bowling from our Wellington spinners Hunter Wilcox (5 overs 33/0 and Ben Fewtrell (5 overs 31/0) not to be outdone our Cheshire spinner Harry Wyn Hughes bowled well (3 overs 23/0) before taking over the wicket keeping duties.
Some of our own bowlers were next into the fray with Max Gay bowling a tight line (3 overs 12/1). Joe Lea gaining experience (3.5 overs 45/0) and Toby Pedley making up for yesterday (4 overs 20/2). Back to our Cheshire boys and Sam Keane bowled excellently (3 overs 2/0) and Sam “one ball” Carney (0.1 overs 1 wicket) finally our own club stalwart Chris Rowe bowling spin finished off the innings (2 overs 4/1). Audlem racked up an impressive total of 221/8 off 35 overs at the interval.
And what an interval it was too. Sandwiches filled with inch thick ham and roast chicken, cheese sandwiches with huge wedges of Cheshire cheese plus egg sandwiches made with fresh farm eggs laid that morning. A feast well worth the £3.50 match fee alone!!
Weighed down with food the Rowe boys opened the batting for Calverhall with Grandad and Uncle watching on, Ryleigh cut a lovely shot for 4 over the top of the slip cordon. Ryleigh eventually fell for 6 runs but a proud Rowe family clapped him off.
Next up was Hunter who ran himself out for 6 when going well.
Joe was next up and hit a lovely check drive which sadly picked out one of their better fielders on the boundary when it looked like a 6 was coming Joe’s way, but sadly he was out for 0.
Harry swiftly followed c&b for 0 and it looked like we could be in trouble…
Ben strode to the wicket and with some expert tutelage from Chris, Ben went on to score 40. Chris was out himself for 46 not long after but we were in the hunt…
Sam “one ball” was next in and despite his injury hit 7 fours in his quick fire 33*. Sam Keane hit a stoic 9 runs before our own Max came in for the last over and a bit. In typical Max style he hit the final ball of the day over the pavilion roof for 6 and ending on 7*.
Calverhall had lost by 41 runs finishing the day on 180/7 but what a cracking day for a proper friendly game of cricket. Thank you everyone.
