Whitehead Coastal Rowing Club

Islandmagee Challenge was our last coastal rowing event of the season and also our charity fundraiser. Our charity this year was Hope Housd Ireland, a unique charity based in beautiful Brown’s Bay. Hope House offer free 3 day holiday stays by the seaside in beautiful accommodation for people and their families who have been affected by a cancer diagnosis.
All profits from this event will go to Hope House to help them to continue to provide this service to cancer sufferers and their families.

End of the season fundraising event photo dump. The Islandmagee Challenge was a blast and we haven’t been able to run it for the last 3 years due to adverse weather and logistical problems but this year the planets aligned and 15 sturdy crews took to the water to knock the bejasus out of 10 miles of solid rowing from Brown’s Bay, past Port Muck, sweeping past the Gobbins and around Blackhead to finish in Whitehead right in front of the County Antrim Yacht Club who provided us with the perfect base for our fundraising event in aid of Hope House Ireland

Our rather fabulous women’s crew raced home as the the 3rd overall fastest crew in the Islandmagee Challenge out of 15 crews including male and mixed crews. It would be fair to say “Uppa Women’s Headers!”

All the winners! Glenarm Men’s crew took the gold in ODY in the men’s section but didn’t stay for the prize giving, hence no photo.

Our Islandmagee Challenge on Saturday 5th September was a riproaring white knuckle 10 miler of a row from Browns Bay to Whitehead. We had a mix of One Design Yawls and Skiffs making up 15 crews, all focussed on being the fastest boat home. This was also our club’s fundraising event with all profits going to local charity Hope House Ireland.
The justgiving page for Hope House will remin open until after our crew return from Monster the Loch at Loch Ness later this month, do still plenty of time to make your donation.

Last big event of the coastal rowing season was the Islandmagee Challenge. On Saturday 6th September 15 crews from Antrim and Down battled the waves from Browns Bay to Whitehead finishing at County Antrim Yacht Club.
We would like to thank CAYC for the use of their premises and facilities, which were key in providing a base for race control crews, barbecue and bar service.
We would also like to thank Core Distribution for their kindness in providing free refreshments on the slip for crews coming off the 10 mile row.

Today! First boats should be arriving around 2pm into Whitehead. Let’s be there to give them a huge cheer. Who will be first past the post?
