The Forts Race 2022 at Whitstable Yacht Club Whitstable Yacht Club hosted the Forts Race Weekend over 28th and 29th May, after a Covid-enforced absence of two years, welcoming the top UK catamaran sailors back to the club for the iconic event, and kicking off this year's Allen Endurance Series.

The Forts Race Weekend is just under 5 weeks away. The Notice of Race is now up on the club website at http://wyc.org.uk/on-the-water/forts-race, and booking is open.

Part of the Allen Sailing Endurance Series, the event is open to sailing catamarans and dinghies with a PY of 1270 or lower, and is a great weekend of sailing in Whitstable's famous waters.

Visitor entries are limited, so book now to avoid disappointment!

FORTS RACE WEEKEND 2021 CANCELLED
Following a review of the current and expected changes in Covid-19 restrictions, and our ability to put on quality and safe events to the standard we pride ourselves on at Whitstable Yacht Club whilst meeting those restrictions, the decision has been made to cancel all open events at the club in April and May 2021, including the Forts Race Weekend on 29th and 20th May.

Whilst restrictions are planned to gradually lift over April and May, even if the current timeline is met we would still not be able to host full social programmes for these events, and there's also a significant amount of volunteer time and effort leading up to and during the Forts Race Weekend in particular, which would be much harder to achieve safely under the current and expected restrictions. Instead, we want to focus the club's efforts on sailing and social activities for our members in April and May.

We look forward to being able to the Forts Race again in 2022, and look forward to welcoming our friends from long distance sailing fleets back to the club again soon. We'd also like to thank our friends and supporters for this event, particularly Allen Sailing, sponsors of the Allen Endurance Series.

The 2021 Sailing Schedule has now been uploaded to the website at wyc.org.uk/on-the-water/schedule, and the Google Calendar has been updated with the dates. The printed Programme is in final draft, and is expected to be posted out to members in early March.
The 2021 sailing schedule assumes a ‘normal year’, but we expect it to change as the local Covid-19 restrictions are updated. As with our 2020 activities, we aim to provide a 3 stages of sailing: unsupported Free Sailing -> Supported Sailing (support boat on the water) -> Club Racing. Keep an eye on the website and social media feeds for the latest updates as we approach the start of the season.
