Morning to all my followers, the bees have exploded into 2025 due to the warm spring. I donāt have any honey available as yet but thought Iād post an update. Iām trying to take a step back from beekeeping this year so that I can spend more time with my mini beekeeper, a friend of mine is going to take on some of the responsibility.
Iām having another go at raising mini bee colonies this year using specialist equipment, very small hives. The advantage being that you can create new colonies with queen cells that would otherwise need to be removed to control swarming (coke can for scale)

To all my followers,
This Saturday Iāll have a stall in Wickford Market for the first time, Iāll be selling honey which is from two apiary sites in Wickford. So if youāve ever been tempted to buy proper honey now is your chance!
It should be a busy day with the carnival on as well.
Please let your friends and family know, Iām looking forward to seeing you and always happy to chat about bees and honey š š
Graeme

I still have honey for sale, itās coming in faster than I can sell it this year, so Iāve run out of small jars Iām afraid.
Large Jar 340g = £7.00
If youād like some please send me a message and Iāll send you pick up details, and set it aside for you. I take cash on collection or payment via an online link
All the honey is from my two apiary sites in , and it is a blend of spring and summer honey from this year. Itās run through two filters and thatās it, no heating. Just raw honey

Honey for sale!
Iāve spent three days sorting out hives, taking the honey frames off, extracting, and putting the wet frames back on.
Small Jar 227g = £4.50
Large Jar 340g = £7.00
If youād like a jar please send me a message letting me know which size jar youād like and Iāll confirm Iāve set it aside for you. I sell it from my house, but can drop it off in the wickford area.
Iāll get back to you as soon as I can.
This is easier for me to track than replying in comments below.

A non bee related post this morning.
I used to be a member of Wickford Chit Chat and have just found that Iāve been removed from the group, no doubt this is because Iām on Wickford Town Council. Thought Iād just let people know that they routinely ask councillors to comment on whatever opinion is going around, but have systematically removed us, so we canāt comment.
firstly I wonāt get drawn into these rants because they always start out negative and go downhill from there, usually posted by the same people. A shame that all the moaning behind a keyboard canāt be used in a more positive way. I find FB to be toxic and frankly impossible to navigate, which is why I rarely post
Secondly, the town council is a collective, we have a social media policy that means we canāt post opinions as the TC. We can post our own opinions as long as we make it clear they are our own, but obviously this could be divisive
So if you see posts saying āany town councillors wish to comment?ā We canāt, weāve (nearly all?) been removed.
Finally, just to reiterate a common misunderstanding. Town Councillors are not paid, we are in this for the love of the town and want to see genuine improvements, we offer up our time for free and volunteer in the community in a variety of ways. We can claim some expenses, for example for travelling to a councillor course, but the majority of us do not.
Yes there is an additional charge for the town council which some are unhappy about, and itās actually the reason I joined to understand and have a say in where and how money is spent. As an individual you stand very little chance of making a difference, the town council is a collective voice with links into Basildon Borough and Essex County. We will make a difference, but it takes time. The same people that complain about Wickford and compare us to our neighbours Rayleigh and Billericay⦠guess what, theyāve had town councils for years looking out for their needs.
Please follow and support Wickford Town Council.
*My own opinion, not that of Wickford Town Council*

Afternoon all, I finally have honey for sale!
I donāt have a huge amount so Iām limiting it to two jars per person in an attempt to ensure everyone gets some, Iām afraid there wonāt be anymore this year.
Small Jar 227g = £4.50
Large Jar 340g = £7.00

It hasnāt been the best year for beekeeping, I didnāt remove any honey in the spring as the weather wasnāt great and I needed to make sure the bees had enough, this was followed by July being very wet, but Iām pleased that the bees have being doing better and now have a surplus
In all honesty it hasnāt been a priority for me this year as weāve just had a baby (Beekeeper in training š), and I kept putting off extraction and processing as it really is a chore, my wife Laura Ellis loves it when I take over the kitchen š
