Match Report: Woolston 18 – 42 Wigan St Pats

Wigan St Pats produced a remarkable second-half comeback to secure an impressive 42-18 victory away at Woolston after trailing 18-0 at the break.

The first half belonged to the home side, with Woolston taking control early and capitalising on their opportunities to build an 18-point lead. St Pats struggled to find their rhythm and went into the 2nd Half knowing they needed a huge response.

Whatever was said at half-time had the desired effect as Wigan St Pats emerged a completely different side in the second period. Showing tremendous character, determination and belief, the visitors quickly turned the momentum in their favour. Strong carries through the middle laid the platform, while improved defensive intensity limited Woolston’s opportunities and allowed St Pats to build sustained pressure.

The comeback gathered pace as St Pats began to convert pressure into points, with the attack clicking into gear and support play creating opportunities across the field. As confidence grew, the visitors played with greater freedom, scoring a succession of tries and taking complete control of the contest.

Woolston were unable to halt the momentum as St Pats continued to dominate possession and territory, eventually running out convincing 42-18 winners. The second-half performance demonstrated the team’s resilience, fitness and togetherness, overturning an 18-point deficit with a clinical display of rugby league.

A superb response from all involved and a result that will give the squad plenty of confidence heading into the next fixture.
