Chris is the absolute backbone of the gym and has been for many years. After dad’s stroke Chris not only continued to be an above and beyond friend . He also took over all the weekly classes and invested endless hours of time keeping the club running. He also is part of our constituted group for 1717 which was set up after we lost a dear friend and wrestler who took his own life in 2019.

Chris is a very experienced high level psychotherapist and having him on the committee for this is invaluable and we are very blessed to have him at our club.

Chris has also competed and won the Snake pit worlds twice putting
Snake pit and catch on the map.

Chris is very humble and many wouldn’t know just what an incredible person he is at the club so I thought I’d share

I am starting monthly intensive sessions in Chinese Martial Arts & Taoist Practices soon. Limited to 6 spaces by invite only.

The learning will systematically cover Shaolin martial arts, Internal martial arts, classic weaponry, traditional healing methods and Taoist health/cultivation practices.

A heavy emphasis will be placed on developing accurate foundations. Over 18s only.

From "The Wigan Hold". Here is Rileys gym, in the mid 1980s, where Roy Wood is coaching. In the late 1970s, after Billy Riley retired, Roy received the honour from Billy to keep the gym running. And whilst Roy coached, Billy Riley would also mentor him, sitting on a chair at the side of the mat.
