I was delighted to have been invited by Harpenden Town Council and The Institute of Directors to be their guest speaker at The Rothamsted Conference Centre on Monday evening.

And what a wonderful evening it was!

Over 50 business leaders from Harpenden and further afield came together to share their insights and experiences of business mentoring.

As East of England Chair of the Association of Business Mentors (ABM), I believe in the power of mentoring to bring people together and grow businesses.

Some takeaways from the evening:

1️⃣ Research by the ABM reveals a direct correlation between mentoring and business growth. Two-thirds of companies that use professional business mentors grow their revenues, profit,s and take on more staff.

2️⃣ A growing number of business owners are actively seeking a professional mentor.

3️⃣ As a direct result of Monday's event, the Harpenden Collective will be launching a mentoring service for its members.

As Richard Branson famously said:

"A mentor is often the missing link between a promising businessperson and a successful one".

When I joined the Association of Business Mentors (ABM) 4 years ago, I never imagined how far the journey would take me.

What began as a chance to meet and learn from other professional mentors has evolved into a deep, rewarding involvement in the mentoring community.

From volunteering as a Help to Grow Mentor to earning a study scholarship, and now supporting ABM’s strategic partnerships in a regional leadership role.

I'm honoured to be appointed Regional Chair for the East of England (Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk).

📅 In the coming weeks, I’ll be inviting ABM members in our region to a series of virtual get-togethers so we can connect, share our experiences, and shape the future of mentoring together.

We're happy to share that Chris has been selected as a Finalist in the National Mentoring Matters Awards.

It's a wonderful achievement to be shortlisted for the Excellence in Mentoring Award for the UK Government’s Help to Grow Programme.

Chris has been supporting Help to Grow since 2022 during which time it has grown into the largest mentoring programme in the world!

Chris is one of more than 3,000 mentors up and down the country who volunteer their time to support the 10,000 SME leaders enrolled in The Help to Grow Management Course.

The winners of each of the nine awards categories will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on March 13th, 2025, at The Insurance Hall in London, which coincides with this year’s National Mentoring Matters Conference.

Chris has been a mentor for over twenty years.

He's accredited as a Senior Practitioner with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.

He's also a Fellow of the Association of Business Mentors (ABM).

It was a privilege to lead a peer-to-peer workshop at Business Leader's biggest-ever Growth Event in London on 23rd Jan.

The event brought together 100 founders and CEOs for a morning of learning and networking, hosted by James Watt and Richard Harpin - two truly inspirational entrepreneurs who have grown their businesses from scratch to well over £1 billion.

This was a chance for the growth-minded, medium-sized founders to learn from the best and co-create a solution to a business challenge in a peer-to-peer working group.

Needless to say, there were some truly inspiring conversations in the breakout rooms and tangible takeaways on what it takes to grow from 'mid-sized to big-sized'.

Alongside 8 of the Association of Business Mentor's most experienced and qualified business mentors, Chris Dunn was invited to run the break-out sessions and prove the power of peer-to-peer.

Peer-to-peer is all about knowledge sharing, ideation, learning, collaboration, and mutual support.

Participants came away from yesterday's Business Leader session with fresh ideas and an appreciation of new ways to solve old problems.
