🐝 Our first home game of the season and what a fantastic win for us! 🐝

We welcomed Portishead Town Ladies to Moor Lane on a very hot and sunny day for what turned out to be a brilliant battle from start to finish.

We didn’t have the best start to the match, with Portishead putting the pressure on straight away and finding an early goal. However, we quickly bounced back from the restart, with Heather getting us back on level terms within a couple of minutes!

Portishead continued to put us under pressure, keeping us boxed in and producing some great shots on target, but Sid was there to keep them at bay with some cracking saves! 🧤

The first half ended all square at 1-1.

We came out for the second half with a new determination to fight for those three points. We worked hard from the start, challenging Portishead and keeping them in their half. Despite our pressure, a lucky break allowed Portishead to take the lead once again.

But the Hornets didn’t give up! We stayed strong, worked together and created some great chances, with some fantastic link-up play giving Donna the opportunity to fire home the equaliser and make it 2-2!

Then came another fantastic moment, as Heather grabbed her second of the game, with a brilliant assist from Sammi, putting us ahead 3-2.

The battle continued right until the final whistle, but with some fantastic defensive work and determination, we kept Portishead from finding a way through.

A fantastic team effort, plenty of hard work and a well-deserved first home win of the season!

Well done, ladies - what a way to start our home campaign!

🏆 Player of the Match today was awarded to winger Mollie. Mollie is consistently good, week in week out. Her work rate is great, her speed is electric and now she’s adding some vocals to her game. This week, Mollie took the bull by the horns. The way she repeatedly drove the ball down the wing petrified the defence and they had to adjust their entire game plan to cope with her style of play. She took her game to the next level and was extremely unlucky to hit the crossbar twice. Well done Mollie!

MATCH REPORT - CHEW VALLEY FOXES VS JUNIOR HORNETS

Our first away game of the season saw the Junior Hornets travel to Stanton Drew this morning to face the Chew Valley Foxes.

Both teams battled hard from the off, making for some exciting viewing for the spectators. Ten minutes in, the Foxes secured their first goal of the game, followed by their second minutes before half time.

The Hornets were determined to pull back some goals but despite some fantastic work between team mates and shots going millimetres wide, hitting the crossbar or being ably dealt with by the Foxes keeper, Wincanton frustratingly just couldn’t find the back of the net on this occasion. The Foxes sealed the game in their favour with their third goal in the closing minutes of the second half, a deserved win for them. We look forward to welcoming them to Moor Lane for the return fixture.
