Huge congratulations to for a truly inspirational achievement this weekend - a 70 mile ultramarathon along Hadrian’s Wall, raising a lot of money for an important charity at the same time.
Her story:
“On June 13th I will be taking on a 70 mile challenge across Hadrian’s Wall, from Carlisle to Newcastle, mostly hiking with perhaps a little steady running thrown in on the flatter sections.
Last year I was diagnosed with Secondary (metastatic) breast cancer which has spread to my bones, specifically spine, hip and femur, and I’m taking every chance to tackle new challenges whilst my body still lets me. I was fortunate to be diagnosed early and although it is Stage 4 and cannot be cured, it can be treated and I can still live my life to the fullest. A big thanks to my medical team at Wi******er who are keeping me alive (literally!), and especially my oncologist, who is ever optimistic and supportive of my latest challenge, although I’m sure he thinks I’m slightly mad!
My running days may be behind me but I’m embracing every trail hike/trot/stomp and I can still run across a finish line. Let’s hope there are many more to come.
I want to support the Charity ‘Make 2nds Count’ as their commitment to education, research and personalised support for Secondary Cancer patients is second to none (pun intended!) An estimated 61,000 men and women in the UK are living with this incurable disease, yet many people have never heard of it - I hadn’t. https://make2ndscount.co.uk”
