Name the exerciseS ? 😃

If you come to class, you'll know that as simple as these look, there's a definite knack to both, things to consider and that they require more precision and control than simply lifting or flinging - especially when you're on a deceptively wavy sea (SO much fun).

I'm hoping you can manage to squeeze in a bit of movement at some stage over the summer holidays. As I always say, don't be intimidated by trying to carve out an hour, just seize the moment and movement snack - stand on one leg when you're brushing your teeth, dumb waiter when you're cooking the dinner, roll down or squat while you're waiting for the microwave, Lizard on the sun lounger, quick 💯 when you're queuing for the plane, jokes - could you imagine? 🤣
I'm game.

Have the most excellent summer everyone - do tag me on your pics if you strike a Pilates pose somewhere fabulous!

Look forward to seeing you all w/c 12th September, but Wi******er being Wi******er, undoubtedly before 😆

Most classes are currently fairly full, but click the link in the bio if you'd like to join any of the following:

Monday 6, 7 and 8pm (St Paul's)
Wednesday 9:45 am (Hyde and Zoom)
Thursday 9:45 am (Scout Hut)

(FYI, there's normally a better chance of getting a space in one of the morning classes).

Ps: This pic is not perfection, it's motherhood in motion 😉 😘

Postnatal Pause...

I've had a ball teaching so many lovely Mums and Babes over the last year. We've moved, we've sung, at times reassured and comforted, we've laughed and perhaps on occasion held back a little tear. Best of all, we've enjoyed a sweet treat or few. 😉 *

The joys of the juggle, it's with a fairly heavy heart and gulp in my throat to say I'll be taking a little pause from the Mummy and Baby class as I'm increasingly pulled sideways by our other baby - our dental practice in Southampton. The practice is my Job - Job, but Pilates is my passion and my purpose.

There are lots of amazing Mummy and Baby classes to try in Wi******er and it's surrounds. It really is the best way to connect with your baby, connect to yourself and to other Mums too.

So, try:

Mondays, 2pm at Eastleigh Leisure Centre
******er.wellness with Lucy, Fridays at 2pm
Thursday mornings, Station Mill

And for Yoga, the amazing
Wednesdays, 11am at Trinity Church Hall.

Thursdays 9:30am, Lanterns

Other great Mum and Baby specific movement classes with a pulsier focus include:

Happy moving,
Jill 😘

Life is busy with a little baby. As a Mum of three myself, I think it's fair to say there are often good days and could-have/been better days with a newborn.

Sometimes you just need to get out of the house, have a change of energy, bit of movement and know that there are other Mums out there going through exactly the same thing as you. It's reassuring to know that everything is a phase.

This is a gentle, nurturing class designed to help your newly postnatal body to move better and feel better - all whilst hanging out with your baby. We'll ensure every part of your body gets some TLC - it's much more than just the core. 😉

👉🏼The next 5 week block starts this Thursday (28th April to 26th May, £50) @ the Log Cabin, Stockbridge Road, Wi******er.

👉🏼11 to 11:50am with a singsong and treat afterwards.

👉🏼Suitable from Medical clearance from 6 weeks, or 12 weeks post c section until your baby is crawling. Please note you will need to complete a Medical Enrolment Form ahead of class.

There's still time to get involved with this block, drop me a line to reserve your spot, or if you're pregnant and would like to join at a later stage, head over to my website (link in bio) to pop your name on the waiting list.

😀

Teaser at the best of times is never easy. Add in balancing on a strip of wood, ski boots and an audience - let's just say I'm glad someone was quick to capture this. Pretty sure it psyched me up for La Face too 🤪

In a perfect world, there are several tweaks I would need to be making here (back of head in line with spine, breastbone forward, less angle at the front of the hips, arms up etc) but I'm happy that a move that once didn't come naturally is now in solid working progress. Thank you for your forever encouragement 😉

I’m pretty chuffed (surprised😂) that so many of you are still planning to come to Pilates on Valentines Night. 🥰🥰

So, as I’m lesson planning (for the final week before the end of term), hit me with your favourite heartlifting exercises in the comments below and I’ll do my best to weave them into classes next week.

Shout out to the Mums of Newborns over Xmas - still present wrapping for everyone, still keeping the house running for everyone, still looking after everyone, all on broken sleep and little to no windows of time for themselves.

Of course it is the most magical of times, but it’s also the busiest and sometimes, the most overwhelming. Newborn times and Christmas times that is.

In class we focus on calming both busy bodies and busy minds. We take a step back to look after you, as a busy Mum. We strengthen, we observe, we help to reconnect with your new postnatal body. And whilst the physical side is so important, I think the mental and social side is so fundamental too for overall Mummy wellbeing.

At the start of each postnatal class, everyone says a quick hello and shares a few words about themselves, their baby and their week - it can be so reassuring to know there are others out there worrying about similar things, surviving on as little sleep and hearing what’s helping others. We share, we care and there’s a lovely spirit of togetherness. Perhaps the before and after chat (and cake) is just as important - the chat also helps the head, the Pilates soothes the body. Win/win.

If you’re interested in coming to the Mummy and Baby class, all being well, class will be running Thursdays at the Scout Hut (Stockbridge Road), 12th Jan to 16th Feb, 6 week block (£60). Spaces are limited, so to register your interest, please click the link in bio for more info and to join the waiting list use this short form https://forms.gle/mDuvM2Ay2RDLBxtP7. (I’ll be keeping a lose eye on my emails so don’t worry if I’m a bit slow to reply).

Merry Christmas everyone 🥂

I'm not quite sure what happens to me as Christmas approaches, but I get this sudden urge to complete all the lists, to check them more than twice and to completely pull the house apart. No cupboard or box is ever left unturned.

Can you relate?

I'm not sure whether I'm hoping to make space for more crap we frankly don't need (everything - new and old is critically assesed on a cost per square basis😉) or I'm trying to give myself permission to let my shoulders truly drop down after the turkey has been served? I'm not too good at chilling at the best of times, something I really need to work on - letting go and taking it slow.

How breezily do you step into Christmas?

Can you join me in regularly checking in with your shoulders? Where are they at any given time - are you wearing them as festive earrings? Can you soften them, can you let them go? How about your alignment - can you notice where you're holding tension, can you take a breath and release any tension?

So if, like many of us, you're feeling the festive pressure right now, know that you can check in with your body anywhere, anytime. You don't need a mat, you don't need a class, you just need to notice, to embrace and ideally, to tweak (should you need to). If you come to class, you'll already be all over this, you'll know how powerful and restorative your breathing can be and if you find space in your busy Xmas schedule, you'll know a wide range of exercises you can practice at your own pace, in your own place, should you wish to. You've got this.

Wishing you all a truly wonderful Christmas wrapped up with family, friendship and fun. Thank you again for your support and ecnouragment in 2021. I really do feel so lucky to be amongst so many special clients and friends every week.

With festive love and cheer,
Jill
😘

GROWING Forwards…

In a place like Wi******er, we're surrounded by so many amazingly bright, talented, sporty people - people who make life look simply effortless and who can take everything in their stride. It's hard not to look sideways sometimes and compare where we are in the here and now to others, to let our insecurities or frustrations stop us in our tracks before we even get going. I'm forever telling my kids "sometimes you have to go backwards before you can go forwards."

In January when I started running during lockdown, I could just about run a mile or two - not even comfortably I might add, and certainly not in the speedy times I used to do when I competed in cross country events as a teenager. I posted before about how I let go of the self imposed pressure, shifted my mindset to one of just going and growing and focused on simply showing up to run with friends.

Encouraged/Inspired by their mob mentality 😉, I signed up to the Wi******er 10k on Sunday - you can see the joy and relief in my face as my great friend and I crossed the finishing line. It was no marathon, no Nobel Peace prize - nothing too crazy but it IS growth - growing in the right direction - making a small but steady step forward in life and feeling all the very better for it - especially in the storm of both Sunday and 2020/2021!

What steps are you taking to make improvements?
What's keeping you going?
What will keep you growing?

You might just surprise yourself 🥰

🦋 (Trigger content warning relating to Baby loss). 🦋

Today is (always) a strange, but very special day for our family.

Today, twenty years ago, Rob and I went on our very first date in bonny Glasgow. We’ve never looked back since. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🥂

Today, ten years ago, our first little baby boy Beau was born, just shy of six months gestation. Our plan to celebrate with our bump in London was swapped for a surprisingly lengthy labour I can only describe as an intense challenge for our minds, bodies and souls. The screams of the other Mums and cries of newborn babies made our silence and emptiness all the more pronounced, especially whilst we shared precious time together before saying our very final goodbye to him.

The days and weeks that followed were just about survivable, but if I’m honest, even with so much love and support, it was the months that followed that often felt so very dark and lonely. It was the little things that kept us going – unexpected acts of kindness, butterflies fluttering seemingly everywhere and Ben Howards Head Up, Heart Strong song. I found bumps very difficult for a long time, even when Rorys beautiful bump started growing. And what do you say when someone asks “is this your first?” Gulps.

🌈
I decided to brave going to Gemma Nash’s Pregnancy Yoga class when pregnant with Rory. That class literally changed my life. opened my eyes to the mind-body connection, to the importance of breathwork and the nourishment movement provides. By the time I approached labour again, I was so physically and mentally prepared - calm, empowered and felt incredibly positive throughout. I was induced at 42 weeks, laboured for 30 hours on gas and air alone, got to 10cm and when it became critical, I had an Emergency Section. My body felt a little broken, but my eyes had opened and my heart was healing. Gemma’s postnatal classes further encouraged my postnatal recoveries (by the time Sofia was born I had had three babies in 30 months 🙃) and inspired my curiosity for both Pilates and making a difference to others…

🦋

As for the picture outside the butterfly suite – this was taken two days after our third, or should I say fourth baby was born. We’ve taken all three babies to see this special room where Beau was born and it felt like an important family picture to remind us how far we’ve come. Formerly Hill View, (Hell View as I called it), I was thrilled to see it had been renamed to the Butterfly Suite. The little knitted hat and blanket he wore will remain our most treasured possession.I’d be lying if I’d say it’s been plain sailing ever since, but we’re so incredibly blessed and proud of our three children who keep us on our toes.

People come to the mat for many different reasons – I guess this was a huge part of mine. Whatever is moving you, whatever your backstory, your goals or motivation, you are welcome and I hope you will always feel supported. My personal goal as a teacher is to simply be there for you if and when you need me to be, to support and encourage you and do my very best to help you grow forwards. I want to provide a class you enjoy, look forward to and that holds a (special) space in your busy week. Most importantly, I want to give you the tools, knowledge and awareness to help YOU look after YOU, knowing I’ll always have your back if you need me.

😘😘

Anyone else feeling a little knocked sideways being back to school and somehow juggling 137* extra curricular activities?? 🙃😂

Just wondering do you manage to squeeze in anything for yourself? For your body? For your head? Something - anything - that’s just for you?

Pilates gives you both headspace and personal space, a safe place to move and explore how your body is feeling right here and now.

In class we observe, we adjust and we improve with each and every repitition of our movement. We ensure every part of the body gets some much needed TLC. Pilates is truly a terrific way of embracing this mind-body connection and I strongly believe this awareness will help you move better for longer…

If you want to move it, not loose it, drop me a DM. Most classes have waiting lists, but there is currently (limited) availability:

Mondays- 6pm (gentle)
Wednesdays at 9:45am
Thursdays at 9:45am

😘
