I've spoken loads about the important of swimming in the early years! Getting them in the water early will water confidence, safety skills and hopefully a lifetime love for swimming! ​​​​​​​​

The way we do it is through our Milestones Programme. It gives your child a fun, highly visual record, but it also helps you understand where they are in Baby Squids journey. Here's how it works ... ​​​​​​​​

💦 Splashers (0-12 Months) - the start of your swimming journey and it's about you and the support you give them to develop. They will be guided by you. You’ll learn to hold them, have fun with them while enjoying quality time in a calm and supportive environment.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
💦 Paddlers (12-24 Months) are well on the way to becoming walking and talking toddlers. They know their own minds and aren't afraid to show it! An amazing time to have lots of fun in the water and try new things.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
💦 Kickers (2-3 Years) - we work with parents to build confidence and independence in the water. This stage includes lots of fun activities, games and songs … not forgetting the big float!​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
💦 Swimmers (3-4 Years) - Things start to change at this stage. They enter the water by themselves for the first time and learn how to be safe and independent. Our teachers are will take things slowly and support this transition - while you proudly stand aside to watch the transformation!​​​​​​​​

We keep the classes small which gives you a fun group environment but also an opportunity for one-on-one teacher time. ​​​​​​​​

I talk to so many people about the benefits of baby swimming classes but also early years classes in general. Thought I’d jump on here this morning and quickly chat about how these sort of classes can make a big difference to your baby/toddler’s development. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
So many to choose from and as parents, you decide which ones to do but what are the actual benefits? Here’s a list of things that immediately spring to mind when thinking about the benefits these classes bring, not only your baby/toddler, but you too​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
1. The focussed one on one time is great for parent and child bonding! ​​​​​​​​
2. The regular conversation an instruction helps them improve language skills! ​​​​​​​​
3. So important, especially in the early years ... it helps develop their motor skills​​​​​​​​
4. Builds your child's confidence and helps them learn how to interact with other children and adults. ​​​​​​​​
5. Brain Stimulation. It's a no brainer!!! ​​​​​​​​
6. It offers you the opportunity to meet and get to know other parents/cares that have children the same age in your area! It'll get you out and about, with some sort of structure which'll help you both! ​​​​​​​​

Having a baby is one of the most amazing things in the world but, let’s face it, it’s also pretty hard. I know what it's like, you might feel the pressure of caring for your baby or maybe it's something else worrying you! Here’s a few reminders/tips that might help with some ‘zen’ and reduce stress.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
🗣️ Talk about your feelings: to your partner, friend and/or family. Don't be afraid to reach out for support. Talking things through can help more than you think! ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
📔 Try and plan: Not essential but it can help to have a plan of action e.g. feeding times, classes, sleep times (you & them)! Don't worry if the plan goes to pot. It's just to give you a bit of structure!​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
😴 Rest & sleep. Preparing to give birth or already have a newborn in the house ... you'll need rest! Prioritise it!​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
😎 Take it one day at a time. Focus on the here and now. Each day can be exciting or emotional enough with a baby. Try not to worry too much about the future or things that are out of your control. Remember, speak to someone if you're struggling.​​​​​​​​

🦸‍♀️ 🦸‍♂️ Don’t worry about being a super parent. Mums and dads often put extra pressure on themselves. Be kind to yourself and accept that you might not get everything right all the time.​​​​​​​​

🫣 Remember that everyone else’s life is not perfect. Social media has a lot to answer for! 😜 Don't get sucked in! Whatever you're doing, it’s absolutely fine! ​​​​​​​​

📓 Journaling: Not for everyone, but writing things down can be useful (feelings, daily routine, reminders, frustrations)!​​​​​​​​

Routine goes a bit out the window in December doesn't it? First proper week back, January is a good time to get back into the swing of things - having a regular activity definitely helps, particularly with little ones! ​​​​​​​​

There are many baby/toddler classes … swimming is just one option. Decide what best suits you, your schedule & your little person! Here are a few reasons why swimming helps in the early years. ​​​​​​​​

1 : The feel of the water, smell, taste & sounds can help a child learn and develop. Sometimes it’s a lot and they can resist, cry or struggle to connect in a class. Teachers will help you support your child in a positive way.​​​​​​​​
2 : It’s so important for both of you! In the water the communication, holding them close and having skin on skin contact strengthens your bond and can calm and relax you both.​​​​​​​​
3 : Fun, fun! The best way to teach is to be happy in the water! Fun activities develop a positive association with swimming. Music, games & activities make it a super fun way to achieve water confidence.​​​​​​​​
4 & : Big pools can be scary. Your child will make it known if they’re not enjoying lessons - your teacher will help deal with wobbles, nervousness and refusal! The goal is to feel comfortable - regular lessons are fantastic for teaching, reinforcing and supporting a fun approach to swimming. ​​​​​​​​
5 & : Water is a lovely calm place to be. It releases endorphins & it’s said to reduce stress more so than any other sport. Being in the water can help relax your body and clear your mind - for children too!​​​​​​​​
