Hello maternity leave πŸ‘‹

I’ve now taught my last class for a little while 😒 I’ve sent my last email for a bit. I’m going to be taking a pause from social media as I retreat to my baby bubble and wait for this little one to join us land side.

To all my amazing clients, thank you for all your support these past 4/5 years, and especially during these past 10 months; I am so very fortunate to know each and every one of you πŸ™

That’s a wrap on teaching for 2020!! 🍾 What a year this has been 🀯 Who would have thought this time last year how 2020 would turn out 😳

A huge bottom of my heart thank you πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™ to all of my amazing clients who ventured online with me 9 months ago and have adapted so well to this new way of teaching. Seeing your smiling faces everyday and hearing your lovely feedback means the world to me. Thank you πŸ™

Under normal circumstances this would mean Christmas jumpers, dodgy Christmas music, Quality Streets, and my now traditional 12 Days of Christmas exercises πŸ˜†

Covid might have put a stop to the sweeties and music this year, but it can’t stop a festive outfit and The 12 Days of Christmas Pilates with AimΓ©e style! πŸ˜†

It’s the start of a new week, a new month, and the sun made an appearance today! 🌞 Lockdown might be on the horizon for those of us in England, but rest assured I’m still here for you, teaching my Pilates classes online for those of you who’d like to keep moving and nurture your body during this strange time.

We must bend so that we don’t break.

Mental health can affect anyone at any time. No one is immune, and goodness knows this year has tested the strongest of minds.

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Awareness day. To protect my mental health I try to avoid social media at the weekend so I’m getting in early today with my top 5 tips for keeping a healthy mind:

🌴 Start with the basics: good nutrition, good sleep (sometimes easier said than done) and daily exercise
🌴 Get out in nature every day, come β˜”οΈ or β˜€οΈ
🌴 Let go of worrying about the things I can’t control and focus on the things I can
🌴 Keep connected to loved ones
🌴 Breath work – try this one with me:

πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Sit somewhere quiet and comfortable, with your back supported
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Place 1 hand on your heart and the other on your belly
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Bring your awareness to your breath and see if you can inhale deep in to your belly for 4-5 counts
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Gradually lengthen your exhale until you can breathe out for 8-10 counts
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Repeat for as long as you have the time
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ If your mind drifts, acknowledge the thought and simply bring your awareness back to your breath

Doing this exercise for as little as 1 minute a day can have a significantly calming effect on your body and mind πŸ‘

We’ve been working with weights (or tin cans!) in class this week. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly a 1lb weight can get so heavy when held under tension for a time. I love how these little weights can help us connect with our centres in exercises like rib cage closures, challenge us in half roll backs, and assist us in full roll backs. So versatile! πŸ’–

Here’s a lovely little sequence to help mobilise a stiff back:

🌿 4x Cat Stretch
🌿 4x Cat Camel (Cow)
🌿 4x Wagging Tails
🌿 4x Pelvic Circles in each direction
🌿 Rest Position
🌿 3x Threading the Needle on each side

My back absolutely loves this pelvis and spine mobilisation sequence πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“ It’s great prep for Corkscrew too πŸ™Œ

8x Pelvic Clocks in each direction
8x Corkscrew Spine Curls, alternating the direction on each one

I then finish with a couple of normal Spine Curls to rebalance πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ
