All of our successful candidates are registered into the MTCS Ltd competence management program, which is included in our course fee. What is the difference between ICA and GA?

Individual Competence Assessment is designed for people who are already performing within their role and can provide suitable evidence of their competence.

Grade Assessment is designed for people who are working towards progression into another grade or role, with workplace assessments and evidence gathered during the process.

The right route will depend on your current responsibilities, experience, development goals and available evidence.

Candidates sometimes ask why a CV or completed logbook is not enough to demonstrate competence.

Both can provide useful information. A CV shows employment history and job titles, while a logbook records workplace activity.

However, competence assessment may also need to consider how tasks were performed, whether the required knowledge was understood and whether performance was consistent.

Witness testimony, workplace documentation, knowledge evidence and assessment records help create a more complete picture.

It is a fair question, especially if you have already spent years working within your role.

Experience builds practical skills, technical knowledge and professional judgement. However, a job title or number of years worked does not always provide employers and clients with the evidence they require.

MTCS helps individuals demonstrate their competence through a structured, independent assessment and certification process.

This creates a clear record of workplace performance, knowledge and supporting evidence.
