Sad news from The Horse Trust but as always we are grateful for the time that they give all the horses, the ability to retire and truly relax is worth so much. Thank you
Thinking of Rocco and all those who knew him.
With heavy hearts, we share the news of the loss of our dear Rocco, a much-loved member of our herd. Rocco, formerly of the Light Cavalry Honourable Artillery Company, has crossed the rainbow bridge at the age of 26.
A gorgeous 17.2hh KWPN Dark Bay Gelding, Rocco served with distinction, taking part in numerous parades and events such as the BLESMA Parade, British Military Tournament, and the Lord Mayor’s Show. Before retiring to The Horse Trust in May 2015, he enjoyed a successful career as a showjumper and a seasoned competitor abroad.
Known for his gentle and patient nature, Rocco quickly became a cherished companion to all who knew him. He spent his retirement surrounded by love and kindness in the beautiful Chiltern Hills, often seen alongside his inseparable friend, Burnaby. Together, they were a pair who brought smiles to all who watched them.
Rocco will always be remembered for his spirited personality and his playful antics that kept us entertained and on our toes. His mischievous nature will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
We were privileged to care for Rocco in his later years, and though he is no longer with us, he will live on in our memories.

Sadly, today we announce the passing of Light Cavalry retiree Sky at the age of 25 years old. This sweet mare spent over four years with the Light Cavalry and became adored by all during her time there. She only joined us here at The Horse Trust a few months ago but during that time we also fell in love with this gentle soul. Although she has only been with us a short while, we are glad to have provided her a happy and peaceful retirement.
During her time with the Light Cavalry Ceremonial Team, Sky took part in all weekly troop rides and was a pillar of the Light Cavalry Horse Team. Some of her claims to fame include the Lord Mayors Parade, the Carpet Guard at Guildhall and the Sheriff’s Ride.
On her retirement, a representative of the Light Cavalry said “Sky has been a massive part of the team, and she has a group of wonderful Supporting Riders that love and adore her. She is a yard favourite and is quietly demanding of attention backing up to her stable door and interrupting any conversation for bottom scratches.”
Due to her advancing age Sky needed to seriously decrease her workload to remain comfortable and therefore the Light Cavalry retired her to us so that she could enjoy the rest of her days relaxing here in our Home of Rest.
Some horses spend years in our herd, others only a few months but the love we feel and the care we provide for these magnificent animals is the same regardless. Sky was no different and she has touched the hearts of all of us here and will be sorely missed by us and all her connections from the Light Cavalry. Rest in peace, gentle Sky.

Whilst with the Light Cavalry HAC Stables on the Sheriff's City Ride 2024. I went to take a photo at one point and this hand shot up in front of me to take a photo. So I decided to use her phone as a lens to take the photo 🤣.

Trip to Windsor today, with young Athos as my wingman. A very positive meeting with Honourable Artillery Company at their stables, followed by tea with the Welsh Guards. (I even polished my boots!). An exciting collaboration in the making, supporting the mental wellbeing of serving personnel 💫
