Fantastic day at Leisure Focus where we hosted the Sportshall Athletics. This saw 24 school teams with over 400 young people, aged between 7 and 11 years of age compete.

The competition was held as part of the exciting national School Games initiative, delivered by Ascot & Maidenhead School Sport Partnership. This competition was supported by a team of young leaders from Newlands Girls School who took on the roles of officials & team leaders.

Leisure Focus Sports Inclusion and Participation Manager, Jatinder Singh Rakhra said “It is great to be able to support and encourage the primary schools of Maidenhead & Ascot to participate in sport and physical activity. It is an opportunity for children to build healthy habits and encourage them to do 60 Active Minutes a day that will benefit them in their lives. It is positive to have young leaders from Newlands Girls School supporting this event, as an organisation we are keen to support leaders and help the next generation of coaches and leaders within The Royal Borough of Windsor Maidenhead.

Exciting news.....Leisure Focus is the new host partner for the 2023 Get Berkshire Active, Winter, and Summer Youth games.

Leisure Focus' Chief Executive Mark Camp-Overy said "we are delighted to be able to host the event in the Royal Borough at the iconic venue, Braywick Leisure Centre. We are passionate about getting more children, more active, more often and healthier. Through our active communities programme, we work very closely with school sports partnerships to offer a wide range of access to sporting activities. We look forward to the event that will see over 1200 young athletes from 60 schools and their families come together from all over the county."

Get Berkshire Active Chief Executive Officer also added "we are excited to be working alongside Leisure Focus to deliver an outstanding experience to the young people of Berkshire via the Berkshire School Games. Positive sporting experiences are hugely important for children and can have a significant impact on their future activity levels. The facilities at Braywick are superb and provide the wow factor we want for our special events."

As the Cabinet Member for Sport & Leisure, it is great to see residents flocking to RBWM's fantastic leisure facilities with attendance in 2022/23 is already outstripping pre-pandemic figures.

The brilliant new Braywick Leisure Centre has been hugely popular and attendance figures are higher than old Magnet Leisure Centre.

Leisure Focus - RBWM's not-for-profit leisure provider - deserve credit for managing the reopening and recovery of the Borough's leisure facilities over what has been a challenging period of the leisure industry.

Always great to welcome one of our trustees to the centre. Adrian Moorhouse, an Olympic gold medal winner 🥇, visited Saturday. He met fellow heroes Chris and Sharon who lead the sessions for assisted swimming(sat afternoons), welcoming over 60 swimmers a week with disabilities who come and enjoy an afternoon swim in a safe and comfortable environment.

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead World Café at Braywick Leisure Centre.

Residents had the opportunity to speak to many key services that are provided within the Borough and to talk to them about health inequalities.

The World Café is an informal networking event where residents can have open conversations about what matters most to them, access relevant support and mingle with other residents/groups.

Two Festivals for primary aged children with additional needs took place yesterday at

Over 65 children from 7 different schools in Maidenhead took part in these new Panathlon Festivals, designed to bring competitive physical activity to young people with disabilities. Ascot & Maidenhead School Sport Partnership has worked closely with Leisure Focus to enable these events to take place for local schools within the RBWM. They were delivered by Panathlon , a national charity which gives young people with disabilities and special educational needs every year the opportunity to take part in competitive sport.

Our 2 Panathlon Festivals targeted different aged children, with Years 1 to 3 taking part in the morning, and older pupils from Years 4 to 6 taking part in the afternoon. They took the form of Multi Skills challenge circuits, with high success keeping enjoyment levels high. Every team member played their part, and the children got to try some new activities, in a safe and fun environment, and most importantly they represented their schools.

We are extremely grateful to Newlands Girls’ School, for providing us with a brilliant team of Year 9 sports leadership students, who encouraged the children and helped deliver the activities alongside the Panathlon coaches.
