What are your plans for the Bank Holiday weekend? If you are heading to the beach, lake, or pool, ensure your entire family knows how to stay safe. Here are some helpful tips to share with your friends and family.
✅ Stop & Think: Check safety signs, flags, and local conditions before entering the water. Never use inflatables in open water—they can drift quickly.
👀 Stay Together: Always supervise children closely. Keep little ones within arm’s reach.
🚫 No Alcohol Near Water: Save the drinks for dry land. Alcohol impairs judgment and increases drowning risk.
🆘 Know What to Do: Call 999 in the UK in an emergency. If you fall in, stay calm, float on your back, and shout for help.
Let’s make this bank holiday memorable for all the right reasons. You can find more water safety advice at www.rlss.org.uk/summer-water-safety

In 2024 alone, 249 lives were lost to accidental drowning across the UK and Ireland.
We believe that class-based water safety education should be accessible to all children regardless of background. Our goal is to equip every family with the knowledge to stay safe in, on, and around water.
On Tuesday, 17 June, RLSS UK will host an event at Westminster with MPs and partners to highlight the urgent need for water safety education in schools. We are calling for its formal inclusion in the National Curriculum’s RHSE guidance for England.

55% parents surveyed believe they would hear if their child was struggling in water, as they think they would thrash about and make a lot of noise...
Contrary to this belief, drowning happens quickly and silently. Leaving a child’s side for even a moment can be enough time to miss a child quietly slipping under the water. 😔 Please always keep young children within arm's reach.

Great event to be involved in. .
We had a great time at our water safety event at Virginia Water a couple of weeks ago 👩🚒🚒
We worked with a wide range of agencies to promote water safety to our residents in and conducted some multi-agency water rescue demonstrations! 💦 Thank you to all who attended, and who were involved in the planning of this event.
