💥🇬🇧 Wow, what a day! 🇺🇸 💥

A Baa-baa Dames side took to the field for our pre-season friendly against touring team Lady Mudturtles!

Whilst the score didn’t go our way, it was such a great game to watch, well-led by our captain, Jess.

This was swiftly followed by fancy-dressed festivities in the clubhouse in a U.K. vs U.S. theme, with each team gifting each other tokens of remembrance (the team’s players for that day signed a Windsor shirt for the Lady Mudturtles and we got gifted a spectacular plaque) for this epic day!

Thank you to our American friends for visiting, both the challenge in the pitch and camaraderie afterwards was amazing and has given us a great boost before kicking off our season!

Thank you to the organisers of the day, with a special highlight to our Head Coach, Ray, our Manager, Sharon and Andy, Chair of Senior Men’s rugby for all they did prior to and on the day.

Thank you to the players who joined our Dames team to create our Baa-baa side.

Big thank you to the staff at the clubhouse and for those who pitched in serving behind the bar, especially our very own Lily, Ruby and Liv.

Grateful for this epic runaround and was so brilliant to see so many down the clubhouse.

SPECIAL MENTION FOR OUR COACH, RAY COX

We were finally able to award Ray with his gift from the team for his coaching last season (unfortunately he missed player awards night - a fineable offence?).

Thank you Ray for your dedication, coaching us in rain or shine, helping encourage the growth of women’s rugby at the club. We appreciate everything you do for us and without your pearls of wisdom, Ray’s Riddles would not exist.

2023/24 SEASON SYNOPSIS: CAROLINE ROBINSON, FORWARDS COACH

I was so grateful to be welcomed back into the Dames this season, not as a player but as part of the coaching team, which has been a challenging but exciting role for me.

When we lost the first game of the season I was unsure whether my enthusiasm to win was shared by the team but I have been blown away by the committment and team work shown by the players in order to play real quality rugby and come away with a third place finish.

Throughout the season we have focused on our defensive structure, line speed and connection which has improved week on week until the final game of the season. Which saw us defending our try line under immense pressure… And we came away with the win! All the players should be so proud of how far we have come this season, developing individually and as a team.

I’ve learnt a lot about coaching this season, like the importance of knowing where the extra hair bobbles are and who drinks out of what water bottle… Perhaps next season we will strive for more independence?

There have been tough times this season; injuries, weather and some ‘commitment issues’ which all saw us dip in training, and has limited our achievements. In spite of this to watch the players dig in and show true grit when times have got tough on the pitch has been pretty impressive!

With so much potential in this team, I can’t wait to see where we go next year… More rugby, more winning and more fun!
But mainly MORE winning!!

2023/24 SEASON SYNOPSIS: MANON BATAILLE, CAPTAIN

What a season from the team, finishing on the podium despite many injuries!

Thank you to all the Dames for always being up to help out at different positions - one of our players played prop and centre in the same game which was pretty impressive.

Well done to players new to rugby for picking up everything so quickly and to the more experienced players for stepping up on the pitch and leading the way.

The season could not have finished better than with a 24-22 win in a very disputed game where we gave everything for the shirt.

A special thank you to the coaches who have been amazing and so committed all season, to the injured players for always being here to support the team and to our very own Sharon who once again held us all together!

01/05/2024

2023/24 SEASON SYNOPSIS: RAY COX, HEAD COACH & FORWARDS COACH

We started the season with Caroline, Cherelle and Beth agreeing to join the coaching team. This enabled us to set up a better structure. Focusing on: basic skills, individual skills and group skills.

It’s important, as a coach, to understand that a good-balanced group opens your eyes to things you as an individual may have missed. Plus, a good balance of characters makes for a better coaching group. We now have a good balance of experience, which will grow over time.

Pre-season went well, we had a lot of new players come and go, but it was good to have interest in the game grow. We started to see a good base of a team which were all registered to Windsor, which was down to the hard work of Sharon and her support team. Old players also returned.

The season started well, unfortunately the score was against us, losing 22-29 to Marlow. This must be the first season where we didn’t have to travel too far, which I think also helped with retention.
The first half of the season, we grew from strength to strength, which was impressive seeing as we had so many new players. There was a real buzz around the Dames. The top of the table was tight and as the season went on but unfortunately, we picked up injuries, which meant that we couldn’t continue in our Cup run.

This continued into the new year and we slipped out of the title race. Unfortunately, lack of numbers at training hindered our chances, losing two big matches. But, The Dames came through and secured a well-fought victory to secure third place.

So, a mixed bag of a season, but there is a lot of potential for next season with so many new players coming through, as well as some Damsels coming up.

April only joined us this season having never played rugby before. She made some amazing runs and tackled like a demon, which is only a reflection of her attitude of never being afraid of getting stuck in since the day she started!
