What’s in the Vault? | Nike Air Pegasus 2005

Not every icon was designed to make a statement.

The Nike Pegasus began life in the early 1980s as a dependable Air-cushioned running shoe for everyday runners.

Pegasus became one of Nike’s most successful and enduring running families. More than 40 years later, it has evolved, but remains a cornerstone of Nike’s range.

This 2005-inspired design captures a very different era of Pegasus - mesh, metallic overlays and that unmistakable early-2000s technical runner look.

Yesterday’s performance shoe becomes today’s fashion.

What’s in the Vault? | Nike Air Huarache

What does water-skiing have to do with one of Nike’s most recognisable trainers?

Quite a lot, as it turns out.

While water-skiing, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield noticed how a neoprene bo**ie wrapped comfortably around his foot. It sparked an idea: could a running shoe fit the same way?

The result was the Nike Air Huarache, launched in 1991.

Its neoprene inner sleeve hugged the foot, while an outer cage provided support. The design was so distinctive that Hatfield even stripped away Nike’s usual oversized Swoosh.

Nike summed it up with a brilliantly simple advertising line:

“Have you hugged your foot today?”

Originally built for running, the Huarache eventually became just as at home on the street.

More than 30 years later, that bo**ie and unmistakable heel cage still make it instantly recognisable.

Not bad for an idea that started behind a speedboat.

What’s in the Vault? | Predator vs F50 vs Copa

Three legendary Adidas boots. Three completely different ways to play.

Predator arrived in 1994, built around control, power and manipulating the ball.

F50 followed in 2004 with a very different philosophy — strip things back, reduce weight and build for speed.

And Copa represents the more traditional side of the game — touch, comfort and a classic feel.

Different approaches. Same goal.

What’s in the Vault? | Nike Air Tech Challenge III | UK 5.5

Tennis wasn’t really supposed to look like this, until these shoes changed the game.

In the late 80s and early 90s, Andre Agassi was changing the image of tennis. Long hair, bright colours, denim-style shorts and an attitude that stood out in a sport still associated with traditional whites.

Nike needed shoes to match.

Working with designer Tinker Hatfield, the Air Tech Challenge line was created to bring some of that same personality to Agassi’s footwear - bold colours, visible Air and designs that looked very different from the traditional tennis shoes of the time.

The Air Tech Challenge III arrived in 1990, continuing that idea with another unmistakably retro design.

More than 35 years later, that's actually what caught our attention.

We didn't buy this pair because of the Agassi connection. We bought it because we liked the unusual old-school look.

Turns out, that's pretty much what these were always about.

Sometimes you find the story after you find the shoe.

What’s in the Vault? | Yeezy 450

Some trainers are designed to be easy to like. The Yeezy 450 definitely wasn’t one of them.

First revealed as a prototype back in 2018, the 450 finally released in 2021 as one of the more unconventional designs to come from the Adidas and Yeezy partnership.

And it’s not difficult to see why it got people talking.

The knitted upper is wrapped in a moulded foam sole that reaches upwards around the shoe in those unmistakable finger-like shapes — creating a silhouette that looks unlike almost anything else on the shelf.

Designed by Yeezy rather than based on an existing Adidas silhouette, it was also notable for being the first Yeezy model manufactured in Germany.

The Adidas-Yeezy partnership may now be history, but the 450 remains one of the more distinctive designs it produced.

Love them or hate them, they're certainly difficult to ignore.

And maybe that's exactly the point.

What’s in the Vault? | Air Max Collection

One name. A lot of different looks.

From classics like the Air Max 95, 97 and TN Plus, through to newer silhouettes like the DN and DN8, we've got Air Max spanning different eras, styles and sizes in the Vault.

And that's only part of it. Invigour, INTRLK and plenty more are in there too.

Some are instantly recognisable. Some you might not see quite as often. But that's part of what makes Air Max such an interesting range — the name has been around for decades, but Nike keeps finding different ways to reinvent it.

So, which Air Max gets your vote?

What’s in the Vault? | Nike Air Max TL 2.5 UK 7

Some trainers become icons straight away. Others have to wait nearly 20 years for their moment.

The Nike Air Max TL 2.5 first appeared in 2006, but while some Air Max models became permanent fixtures, the TL 2.5 quietly disappeared from the line-up and spent years largely forgotten.

Then, almost two decades later, someone went digging in the Nike archives.

COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS brought the silhouette back into the spotlight for its Fall/Winter 2024 collection, sending stripped-back versions down the runway at Paris Fashion Week.

Nike followed with a wider return of the TL 2.5, giving a trainer that never really had its moment first time around another chance.

If 2006 just wasn’t ready for it, then 2026 sure is.

We’ve sold three pairs of these to a regular customer who swears by them, and they’re also personally endorsed by the Vault after Allan had to see what all the fuss was about.

Sometimes a good design just needs a second chance.

Well, we took the photos… might as well use them!

We had an enquiry this week looking for kids' football boots in sizes 3–5, so we pulled together some of what we've got in the Vault and took a few photos.

And once we'd laid them all out, we realised it was actually a pretty decent collection.
