🎾 Mixed Teams Weekend: drama, determination and a dash to A&E! 🎾

Our mixed teams were out in full force this weekend, serving up big performances, close contests and dramatic endings...

Mixed A narrowly lost 5-4 to Abingdon A after captain Caroline made a spectacular early exit with a ruptured Achilles. Huge shoutout to hero James, who gallantly stepped in, swapped tennis duties for taxi duties, and whisked her off to the JR.

Mixed B battled to a brilliant 4-4 draw away at Blewbury, while Mixed C put in a strong performance on an unfamiliar astro surface against Woodstock A, just missing out 4-6.

And finishing the weekend in style, Mixed D stormed to an impressive 8-1 win at home against David Lloyd B. πŸ’ͺ

A huge thank you to everyone who played, stepped in, supported, captained, chauffeured, smiled through the rain, and represented Witney so brilliantly. πŸ’œπŸ’›

πŸ’ͺ Men’s D also brought the drama, clinching a 5-4 victory; no selfie this time, but we’ll absolutely take the win!

🌟 And a standout performance from Ladies A, who played fantastically against a strong Abingdon A, coming away with an incredible 8–1 victory πŸ‘

From tight finishes to commanding wins, it’s been a great weekend to be part of Witney Lawn Tennis Club. Proud of every player out there today! πŸ’₯

Last Friday night we swapped our trainers for glad rags as Witney Lawn Tennis Club took over the Como Lounge in Witney for our annual Club Social & Awards Night πŸŽ‰πŸŽΎ

Members turned up in their droves for a brilliant evening of food, drinks and plenty of laughs. It was so lovely to see everyone off-court, catching up over dinner rather than at a change of ends!

Huge congratulations to all our finalists – and thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a fun, sociable evening. Here’s to more great tennis, more great company, and many more nights like this one πŸ₯‚βœ¨

🎾 MIXED DOUBLES MAYHEM AT WEST WITNEY! 🎾

Organised once again by the legendary Helen, today saw 10 brave pairs battle it out in an all-day tennis marathon. πŸ’ͺπŸ’₯

πŸ•– 7 HOURS.
🎾 ~70 games EACH.
πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ0 functioning knees left by the end.

Every pair played every other pair β€” because who needs rest? πŸ˜… By 5pm, some players were seen attempting to serve from a seated position, and one was overheard asking if their racket could be used as a walking stick. πŸ‘΅πŸ§“

But despite the aching limbs, blisters, and growing suspicion that tennis was invented as a test of human endurance, spirits were sky high! πŸ˜„πŸ‘

🍰 The food table groaned with deliciousness, thanks to all the players bringing their A-game in both tennis AND baking (particularly the performance-enhancing sausage rolls and raspberry blondies!)

🧼 Not a single (ok - very few??) swear words were heard β€” just a lot of creative grunting and the occasional polite β€œOh dear!”

Huge thanks to Helen for masterminding the day. Congratulations to all participants, but especially to our finalists;
Tyrone and Alex
James and Caroline
