Here’s the Witney Mills CC team to take on last year's finalists Oxford Downs in the OCB T20 competition on Wednesday 29th July at 6pm. The bar will be open, so come on down for a great evening of cricket. A local derby, coloured kits, pink balls, lots of sixes, sunshine and beers! All done responsibly.

More youth cricket is coming back at the Mills!!
Our Under 9s sessions are going to recommence from next week. Please see attached the poster that has all the required information and how to go about booking. Please note that this is ONLY for year 3 and 4 children. This is because social distancing rules mean we cannot put on the sort of fun, all-action sessions that work best with younger children. It's very sad that these younger kids are having to miss out. At this stage, we’re only able to offer 20 places in total over four sessions. Again, that's very sad. If this changes as time moves forward, we will adjust accordingly. Thanks.

Tonight's junior nets will be the last for a little while, for obvious reasons. I won't mention it to the kids, unless asked. We are also stopping the Wednesday evening softball sessions at Wood Green. Very sorry. Be safe and sensible everyone. Hopefully see you all in the summer.

A reminder that there is no softball session on Wednesday 18th March at Wood Green. This is because there is a concert at the school. Boo!

People are starting to ask what is going to happen with training in the light of the coronavirus pandemic. The club feels that it will be very obvious when or if we reach the point at which cancelling training is the sensible thing to do. That point WILL be when schools shut or when there is specific advice/instructions from the government. That point MAY be a little before schools shut or formal guidance is issued. Any decision will be made in the best interests of club members, both young, old and in between. In the meantime, can we ask that everyone makes responsible decisions about sending their child to training. We are not saying don't come if they have had a runny nose for a fortnight. But we are saying don't come if you have been cuddling Nadine Dorries or Tom Hanks. Every child at training has someone they love who is part of a vulnerable demographic. And some of the coaches are getting on a bit!

For boys and girls aged five to eight. You don't need to join the club, just sign up for this. Nine and over boys should not sign up for AllStars, they should join the club and come to either the Under 11 soft ball sessions on a Monday or the relevant hardball sessions (see the club website for details of age groups, days and times). Girls aged nine to 11 do not need to join the club. They should sign up for Cricket Dynamos on a Thursday. See the post about Dynamos elsewhere on the Team Witney 2035 feed.

Under 11 pairs softball fixtures. Sunday mornings. This will be for the boys and girls who currently turn up to the Wednesday sessions at Wood Green. There are also a number of Under 9 softball mini-tournaments (TBA but usually on Friday evenings).

Exciting news alert! A number (seven – that's a number) of 1st XI players have agreed to help out with the juniors this year. It will be great for the kids to have someone to look up to, rather than decrepit and embarrassing oldies like me. Most of the people helping out are very nice people and one or two are even cool. We are really hoping this year to get more families down on a Saturday afternoon and evening to watch games, muck about and relax. Creating that link between the juniors and seniors will help that. We are looking into doing food for the kids on a Saturday tea time for a couple of quid – on the basis that parents will come down and drink vast amounts of beer, wine and G&T. It's all part of our drive to create a buzzing club for all ages with a really friendly feel. We want a trip to the ground to be part of everyone's Saturday, and we will be working hard to make this happen.

Here is the outdoor schedule for the summer. It should all be fairly clear which sessions your child should go to. If they are softball now, then they will likely be softball in the summer (although there are a few ready to move up if they want). Summer's coming. If you have any questions, then DM me.

Brilliant first softball session at Wood Green tonight. We had 22 girls and boys who turned up with brilliant attitudes. I think they all had a great time. See you all next week.
