📍 Now and Then on the 13th hole
The hole has evolved beautifully while keeping the character J.F. Abercromby first imagined back in 1908. The bunkering is sharper, the conditioning immaculate, and the hole continues to be perfectly framed by the pines and heathland of Brookwood Common - but the challenge remains exactly the same: hit the green… or pay the price.

“In my time, no golfer has stood out so far ahead of his or her contemporaries as Lady Heathcoat Amory” - Henry Cotton
This week, Worplesdon Golf Club proudly hosts the annual Lady Heathcoat-Amory Foursomes competition, held in memory of the incomparable Joyce Wethered.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest amateur golfers the game has ever seen, Joyce Wethered dominated women’s golf throughout the 1920s. She claimed five consecutive victories in the English Ladies’ Championship from 1920–1925, while also winning the British Ladies’ Championship in 1922, 1924 and 1925.
Her remarkable career reached another historic moment in 1929, when she secured her fourth British Ladies’ Championship title at St Andrews Links, with reports suggesting crowds of more than 6,000 gathered to watch - a testament to her extraordinary standing within the game. Another incredible achievement came in 1932 when Joyce was asked to be a playing captain in the first ever Curtis Cup!
All of these remarkable achievements came during Joyce’s time as a member of Worplesdon Golf Club, which she remained deeply connected throughout her life. In 1963, she became President, a position she held with great distinction until her passing in 1997.

A look back at a fantastic golf clinic at Worplesdon Golf Club 💙
We’re reflecting on a brilliant clinic we held at Worplesdon Golf Club, where our members enjoyed superb coaching, a welcoming environment and some truly special moments on the range.
Huge thanks to Andy and Callum for their excellent coaching, and to the club for such generous hospitality. The day also saw two new members join our EWBG community — always a moment worth celebrating.
As organiser Andrew shared afterwards:
“Watching Pete reconnect with golf was truly inspiring. Turns out he can absolutely stripe it.”
Moments like this remind us why these clinics matter — confidence grows, connections are made, and people rediscover what’s possible through golf.
Thank you to everyone involved for making it such a memorable day. 💛
