The second fixture in the Staffs Floodlit u19 Competition was a different proposition to the first, as we travelled to Birmingham League Himley.
Batting first we quickly found ourselves in trouble at 17 for 3, but a good stand from Luca and Coxy (17) steadied the ship, but runs were hard to come by.
Luca retired for a diligent 50 and Ryan boosted the run rate at the end but we finished on a disappointing 98 for 5.
In reply Ryan made an early breakthrough, but the lack of scoreboard pressure showed as Himley knew they'd be comfortable as long as they had wickets in hand, and kept on the run rate. Jacob picked up our only other wicket, but a mention for Amy is worthy after a fine economic spell in which she was unfortunate not to pick up a wicket or two. π

Gameweek 7 Round-Up ππ
MATCH REPORT by Each Captain ππ½
1ST TEAM
The 1s hosted Wednesbury looking to get back to winning ways.
Winning the toss, we bowled first and got off to the perfect start with the away side 21-5 thanks to Nadeem Akram (4-37) then a late charge saw Wednesbury get up to a a respectful score of 194/9 of 50 overs.
The chase started of well with a 64 opening partnership stand before 2 quick wickets but John Tabner (74*) and Raees Carr (72*) saw us home and at a very quick rate inside 30 overs to win by 8 wickets.
Great to get back to winning ways and onto next week. π
2ND TEAM
The 2nd XI fell to a second successive defeat in a competitive game with Old Wulfs. Having been asked to bat first, Wightwick made a positive start, with Kully and Miles sharing 26 for the first wicket. When Miles was dismissed, Phil and Kully continued to accumulate until Phil was bowled to leave Wightwick 46-2. Kully batted well to reach 20 but was eventually caught at cover. This triggered a rapid flow of wickets which left Wightwick reeling at 76-5.
The collapse was so quick that Joey had barely had time to get his kit on, but he emerged from the changing rooms unphased. He went on to share a brilliant partnership of 117 with Sandeep to wrestle Wightwick back into the game. Joey eventually departed for 66 whilst Sandeep produced a classy 54. Razaan contributed with some lower order hitting to bring Wightwick to 222 off their 45 overs.
Old Wulfs made a fast start in their reply with Wightwick struggling to find control in the early stages. Fardeen chipped in to remove the Old Wulfs opener but the runs continued to flow. A spin combination of Saksham and Josh did produce a few wickets to give Wightwick hope but Old Wulfs paced their chase well. Even when Fardeen returned with another wicket, the game had fallen slightly out of Wightwick's reach and Old Wulfs reached their target in the 40th over.
Wightwick will look to take the opportunity to get back to winning ways at home against Penn next week. πͺ
3RD TEAM
The 3rd XI claimed an emphatic, statement victory against Codsall 2s on a day where many match balls were lost!
On the back of scoring 365 last week, the 3s won the toss and opted to bat first again, looking to pile on the runs again. Sid Hassan (18) and Rajesh Dadwal (42) began well, but the loss of wickets then brought Kieran Patel and Surinder Singh. What happened next can only best be described as utter carnage! Both men completed fantastic centuries, with Kieran eventually being dismissed for 130 from 99 balls including 10 (ten) sixes! Surinder was then joined by James Haffie-Hobday who cracked 46 from just 22 balls. Surinder was eventually dismissed for an unbelievable 163 from just 74 balls including 12 (twelve) sixes! Wightwick ended their innings on 451/7 from 45 overs.
Codsall, to their credit, began the run chase well through both openers. Owain Morris then made a double breakthrough and a couple of run-outs put the breaks on their charge. This brought Balveer Singh Gill to crease and taking inspiration from occurred earlier in the day, went on to tear apart the 3s attack. He hit 14 (fourteen) sixes and was nearing his century but skipper Amrik Sangha had other ideas and bowled him for 99. Surinder, not content with his earlier heroics then proceeded to mop up the tail and end with 4/17, with the final margin of victory a huge 204 runs.
The 3s travel to Hawkins on Saturday looking to continue their strong run of form. π₯³
4TH TEAM
Saturday's match against Armitage was dominated by one player. Adam Shaw opened the batting for Armitage and took the game away from WFCC with some powerful hitting. An inning consisting of twenty-one four and nine sixes just shows how dominant his inning of 156 of 88 balls was.
WFCC started the match with some early wickets and had Armitage 35 for 3. However, the match started to slip away from us as Shaw's inning gathered pace.
Shaw had one chance and made WFCC pay for not taking it.
However, once Shaw was out WFCC bowlers regained their confidence and bowled Armitage out for 238 in 32.3 over. Freddie and Simon both finished with four wickets each.
WFCC were pegged back by losing two early wickets. But there was a fight back as Haider struck a powerful 58 and he was ably assisted by Harry with a solid contribution of 35.
Once these two batters departed Armitage siege the opportunity and bowled WFCC out in the 43rd over. π
5TH TEAM
Coming up against Springhillβs 3rd team saw us batting first, David (25) and Shubh (18) took 27 runs in the first 3 overs to start us off. Jayden made a return to the 5th team with a bang, getting 43 off 35 and James continued his form from last week taking another 36 runs. The next two batsmen, Tom (17) and Shaurya (30) kept adding to the total and with the help of extras, we reached 210-10 in 33 overs.
Ava started the 2nd innings off with an lbw in the 7th over. Jake came onto bowl and after bowling 3 wides outside off in the previous over, he got one right on middle stump to remove another batter from the game. 5 overs later, David got a great run out, throwing the ball at the keeperβs end while the batsmen were arguing with each other to take the final wicket of the innings. This event led right towards the end of the match as the batters drastically increased the run rate, winning the match by the end of the 35th over. π«
