This is the number of precious lives lost from drowning since the hot weather arrived 💔
So many lives changed for ever.
PLEASE EDUCATE YOUR CHILDREN, FAMILY AND FRIENDS on the dangers of open water swimming.
It could save a life‼️
•Choose swimming in supervised locations with lifeguards where possible.
•Enter the water slowly to reduce the risk of cold-water shock ⚠️
•Cold-water shock is an involuntary physiological response when the body is suddenly immersed in water.
It causes blood vessels in the skin to close, which increases blood flow resistance, and as a result forces the heart to work harder and causes blood pressure to increase. ⚠️
•Remind others that swimming in open water is drastically different to swimming in indoor swimming pools…..
IT IS UNPREDICTABLE, THERE IS POOR VISIBILITY, THE TEMPERATURE CAN BE EXTREMELY DIFFERENT.
STOP and THINK 🛑
(RNLI): Anything below 15C is defined as cold water, and average UK and Ireland sea temperatures are 12C, and some rivers can be colder even in summer.

With warm weather forecast this weekend and into next week, more of us will enjoy spending time in, on, or around water, so it’s important to stay safe.
Almost half (47%) of UK accidental drownings happen between May and August, with higher risks during warmer weather.
Keep yourself and your family safe:
• Check for hazards, including depth, currents, tides, and hidden underwater objects.
• Stay together and swim in lifeguarded areas.
In an emergency:
• Call 999 immediately
• If you fall in or become tired, stay calm, float on your back, and call for help

We’ve teamed up with Met Office to help you get for summer.
Many parts of the nation are set to enjoy warm and sunny weather this weekend and over the next week. As many of us spend more time with family outdoors, whether that’s for a run, a waterside walk or an open water swim, it’s important to stay safe.
Before you go, take a few minutes to refresh your water safety knowledge. It could make all the difference in an emergency.
