For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17)

God’s love, grace and mercy shine through the gospel—but what humanity truly needs is righteousness that meets God’s perfect standard. People have long asked, “How can man be right with God?” (see Job 9:2;25:4) The gospel answers that cry: it reveals a righteousness from God, not just about Him. It’s not His attribute of righteousness, nor the personal righteousness of Christ alone, but a righteousness He provides for us—a covering, like a robe (Isaiah 61:10). This righteousness is found in Christ Himself. As Paul says, Christ became to us ... righteousness (1 Corinthians 1:30), and we become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). It’s not earned (Romans 5:17) but received by faith alone. This is the heart of the gospel: anyone who believes receives a righteousness not their own, but from God, fully sufficient to stand before Him, now and forever.
