171 year Historic achievement for Royal Wootton Bassett Cricket Club.
Following Saturday’s victory, our 1st team have secured promotion to the West Of England Premier League Division 1 — taking the club to the highest level of cricket the club has ever reached in its 172 year history and is able to play at. This league is one of the strongest club cricket leagues in the country.
RWB secured an excellent four-wicket victory away at Painswick, successfully chasing down 230 with more than three overs to spare.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Painswick found themselves in trouble at 74-6, with Prav Chahal producing an outstanding spell of 5-42. Bradley Dawson and Akash Sharma claimed two wickets apiece as Bassett continued to apply the pressure.
However, a superb unbeaten 109 from Jonathan Conolly, helped them reach 229 all out from 43.5 overs.
Bassett’s reply got off to a difficult start at 29-2, before Charanveer Chahal (46) and Bradley Dawson (39) steadied the innings. Jack Twine added a useful 22 before Prav Chahal took control of the chase.
Following his five-wicket haul, Prav completed a superb all-round performance with an unbeaten 68 from just 51 balls, including seven fours and four sixes. He was well supported by Akash Sharma (15)* as Bassett reached 233-6 in 46.5 overs to seal a fine four-wicket victory.
A brilliant all-round performance from player of the match Prav Chahal and another excellent win for Bassett.
Royal Wootton Bassett 2nd V Malmesbury 1st team.
Royal Wootton Bassett secured a convincing 136-run victory over Malmesbury after posting 287-9 from their 45 overs.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat, Bassett made an excellent start through Parth Gandhi (60) and Navjot Chahal (58), who put on 122 for the opening wicket. Amanveer Singh Jagdey added a valuable 56, before late contributions from Owen Davies (32), Ben Edwards (25) and Shawn Vithanage (21) lifted Bassett to a strong total.
Malmesbury struggled in reply, with Shawn Vithanage producing a superb spell of 5-27. Navjot Chahal also claimed a wicket, while Harminder Jagdey took two wickets for just one run. Malmesbury were bowled out for 151 in 41.4 overs.
Bassett’s disciplined bowling and excellent fielding secured a comprehensive victory, with Vithanage’s outstanding all-round performance the highlight of the match.
Royal Wootton Bassett 3rds v Wroughton – Match Report
Royal Wootton Bassett 3rds secured a convincing 76-run victory over Wroughton, defending a total of 232 from their 45 overs.
Wroughton won the toss and elected to field, but Bassett built a competitive total through a series of valuable contributions. Yatharth Agrawal made 47, while Harshi Balusu added 45 and Balakrishna Mareedu top-scored with an excellent 59 from 49 balls, including nine fours. Matt Hunt contributed a quick 17 from 11 balls as Bassett finished on 232-9.
Bassett made an immediate impact with the ball, reducing Wroughton to 41-4. Holly Evans produced a superb spell of 5-56, while Balakrishna Mareedu and Harshi Balusu kept the pressure on with economical bowling.
Wroughton were eventually bowled out for 156 in 30.5 overs, giving Bassett a well-deserved 76-run victory.

Allington 2nd XI v Royal Wootton Bassett – Match Report
Royal Wootton Bassett secured a convincing 20-run victory away at Allington, defending a total of 168 from their 40 overs.
After being asked to bat, Bassett made steady progress despite losing wickets Ollie Smith provided the innings’ main acceleration with a fine 35 from 27 balls, including six fours, while Jake Robinson remained unbeaten on 36 from 53 balls. Emily Lancaster added a valuable 24, as Bassett reached 168-7.
Bassett then bowled Allington out for 148 in 35.3 overs. Anand produced an outstanding spell of 3 for 8 from 5.3 overs, including three maidens, while Jake Robinson claimed 2-28 and Ella Pitman took 2-24. A strong all-round performance from Royal Wootton Bassett, with Anand’s superb bowling and valuable contributions from Smith, Robinson and Lancaster securing an excellent away win.
