We were only talking about these different systems on our Scrambling weekend in Snowdonia. This is very nicely put with some great info.

A great day out with Lee on an introduction to Mountain Navigation in the Black Mountains .⛰️⛰️
We looked at the following and more
Bearings🧭
Paceing 🚶‍♂️‍➡️
Timings.⌚️
We Navigated to Spot Heights, contour lines water features and Trig points.
We talked about paths and features that are on the map😃 as well as the ones that aren't 🫤
We chatted about modern Day Navigation aids such as Mobile phone 📱 apps, smart watches ⌚️, and what their pros and cons are.

This boy didn't even want to climb. He was adamant it wasn't going to happen..
Little steps, patience, and some gentle reassurance, and he was aiming for the top by the end of the session.

A muddy but fantastic weekend out with some lovely young people from Barrs Hill school and Stratford Girls Grammer School tackling all the things involved with Navigation ready for their up and coming Training and assessments for their DofE 🧭⛰️🏕🏕

Great weekend scrambling in Snowdonia the other weekend. Despite the weather, we all still managed to have a great time.
We tackled
Senior's Gully
Senior's Ridge up and over the Glyders and descended via the Devils kitchen.
The following day, we made our way up Tryfan via the North Ridge
and descended via the South Ridge.

Organised by a great Facebook group Mountain Mountain Medicine, run by my good friends Phill and Janine, who organise regular outings, go check them out

I see it every time on the North Ridge of Tryfan or on the summit people wanting an adventure but not knowing they're limits or how to retreat safely. I'll always help and give advice when needed. But lots still ignore that advice.
