We’ve already celebrated our amazing coach Kate Smith after representing England and lifting the Masters World Cup with the England Women’s Over 40s… but she wasn’t the only Workington St Joseph’s superstar pulling on an England shirt this weekend! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

A massive congratulations to Martyn Marshall our brilliant ladies’ team coach and also a key member of our mixed team, who represented England Men’s Over 40s at the Masters this weekend! 👏⚽️

And what an achievement for Martyn and the whole England squad — runners-up in the Masters Final! 🥈🏆

To represent your country at any level is something incredibly special, but to reach a Masters World Final is an absolutely fantastic achievement. We couldn’t be prouder to have one of our own representing England on the international stage. 🩷💙

Martyn gives so much to St Joseph’s, both coaching our ladies and getting out on the pitch with our mixed team, so seeing him rewarded with an England shirt and a place in a Masters Final makes us incredibly proud.

💗💜 Another Fantastic Weekend for Workington St Joseph’s Women’s Walking Football! 💜💗

It was another action-packed weekend on the road as our ladies represented the club across the North East, competing in both the Northumberland Summer Series League on Saturday and the Northern Walking Football League in Middlesbrough on Sunday.

Saturday – Newcastle

We kicked off the weekend with a fiercely contested Cumbrian derby against our friends and rivals, Carlisle. As always, it was a fantastic advert for women’s walking football, with both teams giving everything. The game could have gone either way, but Carlisle edged it 1-0 to take the honours this time. Congratulations to our Cumbrian sisters – we’re already looking forward to the next meeting!

Our second match saw us battle back brilliantly from behind to earn a well-deserved 2-2 draw against Swifts, showing the character and determination that this team has in abundance. We rounded off the day in style with two comfortable victories, ensuring a very positive finish to Saturday’s fixtures.

Sunday – Middlesbrough

There was no time to rest as we made the long journey from Workington to Middlesbrough for another round of Northern Walking Football League fixtures.

The squad continued its excellent run of form, remaining unbeaten throughout the afternoon, with a mix of wins and draws reflecting the hard work, commitment and togetherness of every player.

A special mention goes to everyone who stepped up and played in unfamiliar positions for the good of the team. That willingness to put the team first is what makes this group so special, and every single player should be proud of their contribution.

Travelling hundreds of miles week after week isn’t easy, but our commitment to the Northern Walking Football League continues to be one of our greatest strengths. The dedication shown by everyone involved is being rewarded with consistent performances, and we’re delighted to see the progress this team continues to make.

After watching the England Men put on a fantastic display to overcome Norway in last night’s World Cup quarter-final, it was our turn to pull on the shirts and show what St Jo’s are made of!

With two teams representing the club in the scorching summer sunshine, we couldn’t be prouder of every single player.

An incredible achievement across both squads. Eight matches played, unbeaten, and not a single goal found its way past our outstanding defences and goalkeepers! 👏 And we scored some absolute corker goals too ⚽️

Days like today show the strength, depth and togetherness of our club. Whether playing walking football or running football, every player wore the St Jo’s shirt with pride, determination and a real team spirit.
