We’re delighted to share this lovely update from SMART Ambassador Penny, after a busy year spent educating youngsters.

🗨“It was a real highlight to finally get my homebred Mac out to his first BE. He was backed and started in my SMART Elite Jump saddle six years ago, and he’s still going strong in it today. It’s brilliant to see how far he’s come and to finally see him stepping out and competing. Kate did a fantastic job riding him while I recover from an injury!”

Six years on, it’s fantastic to see Mac and his SMART Elite Jump out competing together, and what a proud moment for a homebred horse in his competition journey.

Inside the Design: The SMART Gullet

Like the rest of the SMART Saddle, the SMART gullet is designed to flex both laterally and longitudinally as the horse bends, lifts and flexes its back throughout movement. This allows the saddle to accommodate the natural changes in shape that occur each stride while maintaining stability and supporting unrestricted freedom of movement.

🔍Inside the Design: The SMART Seat.

Every SMART Saddle features a one-piece moulded seat, designed to support the rider with both comfort and function in mind.

First sculpted for rider ergonomics, then scanned and reverse-engineered to ensure symmetry in preparation for precision moulding.

Different SMART models feature different seat profiles to suit different disciplines and rider preferences. For example, a dressage seat has a deeper profile to support the rider's position when riding with a longer stirrup length, while a jump seat is flatter and more open, allowing greater manoeuvrability in a two-point position and over fences.

The density of the foam is just as carefully considered. Whilst lower-density foam may feel softer initially, it can reduce stability and wear less well over time. SMART Seats instead use supportive, high-density foam selected to provide riders with a secure, balanced feel, helping maintain close communication with the horse beneath them.

Much like a high-quality car seat, it's designed to be comfortable enough for time spent in the saddle, supportive enough to ride effectively, and durable enough to withstand years of everyday use.
