Congratulations Terry from all of us at Hill Barn and a fabulous poem!

⛳ 60 years. One swing. One moment.

Some golfers get two hole-in-ones in a week…
Others wait a lifetime.

For our Men’s Captain, Terry — a familiar and much-loved face around the Club — it was a 60 year wait for that magic moment. Then, it finally happened… his very first hole-in-one ⛳🎯

Picture the scene: standing on the 5th tee at Hill Barn, a tricky par 3, the green mostly hidden, a crosswind in play… and a quiet thought — “could this be the one?”

One smooth swing.
A perfectly struck 9 iron.
And then… that sound.

Not a bounce. Not the sand.
Straight in the hole.

A lifetime of near misses, patience, and perseverance — all leading to one unforgettable shot.

👏 Huge congratulations Terry — proof that in golf (and life), patience really is a virtue.

Below is the full poem written by Terry about his hole-in-one:

On the tee at hole number five
In partnership with my friend Clive
Quite a short hole this par three
The flag and top of pin I can see.

So, it’s all downhill to my delight
But most of the green is out of sight
Two bunkers are also hidden from view
My indecision is nothing new.

What club to take asks my inner voice?
A gentle nine iron is my choice
Where is the skylark I can hear?
That green woodpecker is also near.

Concentrate old man that’s your duty -
Stop admiring the course’s beauty!
Yes, but with the onset of Spring
The South Downs are inspiring.

Enough of that, time to hit the ball
There’s a bit of a cross wind, that is all
Good grief, that’s going very straight
Could it be time to celebrate?

Sixty golfing years and no hole in one
Why should this shot end that run?
Where on earth did that sphere land?
Ten to one it’s in the sand.

What’s that noise I just heard?
It was definitely not a bird.
I’m not the first to reach the green
But the ball is already seen.

I really can’t believe my eyes
It’s in the hole to great surprise
A quiet smile is on the face
Finally, finally it’s an ace!

The men’s team today started there campaign in the Southern Golf league against East Brighton, a 3-3 draw, great company and a lot of close matches! ⛳️The Barn remain undefeated at home in the 26/27 season 👊

The 2026 season kicks off! ⛳️

The First fixture of the year was annual the Leo Laurie match against Portsmouth GC

Sporting the new colours the team brought home a 4-2 win on home soil ready for the return leg in a few months!
