CUP FEVER… is over

1sts met Sea Mills at home in the B&D cup, a side plying their trade a league higher. Losing 5-3.
An even start, but we went 1-0 down after conceding a ‘soft’ penalty. But we equalised, some good work out wide by Dan who fired it across to Lewis Wynn to tap home. Alas, a long ball not dealt with put us 2-1 down and that’s how we went into HT. Second half, 3-1 down… 4-1 down… and down to 10 men after a sin bin. But Charlie Davis scored, then Sam Cooper scored and we, despite being down to 10, were back in the game! Sadly Sea Mills scored again to secure the win. A lot of positives, and with their keeper winning their MOTM it gives an idea on the chances created.
MOTM; Sam Cooper - tidy on the ball and covered Rb well when asked. Scored! 😮

Ressies also played higher league opposition in the B&D cup, Nic Wands A. Eventually losing 4-1.
We found ourselves playing quite well and on another day could have been leading at HT. We went 2-0 down but Paddy Watson gave us some hope making it 2-1 before the half. Plenty to play for second half. But credit to the away side who closed the game out well and confirmed the victory.
Great to see Dariuz Davey back in blue (and not in goal 👀) after over a year out.
MOTM; Joe May - First start and did well at Cb winning a number of tackles and not giving in.

Good to be back 🦍

First team battled back from 2-0 down to secure a point at Sunnyside vs Bristol Barcelona res.
We actually had a decent first 20, but after two counter attacks we found ourselves 2-0 down and with it all to do. We started forcing it and ended in a pretty poor half. But second half was a different game. Better on the ball, more energy and created more chances. An unlucky handball gave us our first pen, scored by Sam Makepeace. Then with minutes left Reece Packer beat the keeper to the ball before being taken out. Peace converted his second pen to seal us a deserved point in the end.
MOTM; Stephen Clapp - Does Clappy ever play badly? Solid throughout the whole game. Barely put a foot wrong.

Ressies lost 4-1 away to Seymour res.
We started really well, going 1-0 down basically straight away 😂 didn’t improve much from then sadly. 3-1 down at HT, our goal coming from Kieran Bailey. A slight change of shape in the second half seemed to tighten things up, but we ended losing the game 4-1. Too many goals conceded from free headers in the box. Plenty to work on!

Okay, last FCUOY round up before we start on Saturday 💆🏻‍♂️

A big thanks to KMM Energy for sponsoring our new 1st team keeper kit. Dan had been wearing the same kit for 5 seasons and now he looks lovely in green.

Pre season was a pain in the ass with teams dropping out and referees not turning up. So a big thanks to all the sides we ended up playing! Special mention to Keynsham Rangers who we’ve played in our last 6 pre seasons, Bristol United in our last 4 and Kingswood also in our last 4.
The firsts didn’t win a game so that was fun. But every game was either drawn or a 1 goal margin.
Ressies won 2 and lost 2, and blooded in a whole host of new players.

The 1st team were… PROMOTED!
Tbh 8 teams were promoted so is that really an achievement 😂. But we will take it after finishing 4th last year and now plying our trade in B&D1.
We face Bristol Barcelona res at Sunnyside on Saturday, funnily enough a side we finished on the exact same points as last season. Tough league this year.

The Ressies were… RELEGATED!
Not so happy news but with the league last year only having 7 teams and a number of crucial players leaving it was always going to be tough. We technically are still playing in B&D3 this season, but this is now the bottom league. A load of local derbies which is great to see. We face Seymour res away on Saturday.

Finally, just to give an idea what goes into running a club, it cost the club £578 just to enable us to play our first games on Saturday. Absolutely mental and a big reason why grassroots football is dying. When we started playing Saturdays in 21/22 there was 6 leagues and 74 teams in B&D. Now theres just 4 leagues and 46 teams.
It’s why we are so grateful for all our sponsors because without them we simply wouldn’t exist!

Pre season 26/27 ✅

1st team played Wick reserves on Saturday, ending in a 2-2 draw.
We went 1-0 down early on after a ridiculous long range effort lobbed Dan James. We found an equaliser though, a front post corner fired in from Jack Dwyer was eventually turned in by a Wick defender. Pretty decent first half from us as we looked solid at the back and pretty dangerous on the counter. Buttttt we went 2-1 down in the second half, a long ball, a mistake at the back and Wicks striker steered it in. Then two Wick players decided to start scrapping each other which was a fun watch, resulting in one of them getting sent off. We started piling on the pressure. Some great saves by their keeper, a couple big chances missed, Ed Davis hitting the post AND Reece Packer hitting the post. But we finally found out breakthrough, Dan Thompson pressing their keeper whose clearance smashed off Dan and Joe Mawson scored into an empty net. Was a great game!
MOTM; Jasper Alleyne - Never seen Jasp win as many headers. Really solid on the ball and as always, energetic off it.

We then had our annual pre season night out which was really well attended, 30+ throughout the night. Theo Cobley, Reece Packer and Kieran Sutton winning our ‘players of pre season’. Alfie Gibson (3.22) and Ryan Baker (1.13) both completing their birthday 5 halves, well in boys. Few sore heads Sunday morning I imagine 🍻

What a game 💆🏻‍♂️

The first team continued their pre season, narrowly losing to Keynsham Rangers today.

Chaotic game, full of chances and goals. We went into HT 2-1 up via goals from Reece Packer and Joe Mawson. A really good half from the boys, looking pretty solid at the back and threatening going forward. Second half was a different game as the away side came out firing as we eventually lost 5-4. Our other two goals coming from Ben Weaver and Paddy Watson.
MOTM; Xander Hyde - stuck to his job really well, very energetic, won’t mention the open goal 😉

Close game for the ressies.

After the firsts’ game with Bristol United on Thursday it was the ressies turn today. Losing 2-1 at Sodbury School.
The first half was pretty even but we went 1-0 behind after a corner wasn’t dealt with and bundled in. 1-0 down at HT. Second half and the away side scored again to put them further ahead. But the boys kept plugging away and with 5 minutes left, their keeper fumbled and Kieran Sutton finished nicely to get us back into the game. A few good attacks to end the game but not enough in the end. Decent performance from the squad though as we look to gel going into the new season.
MOTM; Matt Ellery - good showing at the back, comfortable on the ball and starting the majority of our attacks.

Desmond 🩰

1sts played Bristol United 1st yesterday as we continue our pre season, games finishing 2-2.
Bristol United started pretty well, and we were under the cosh for a good portion of the first half. But we took the lead, we actually made about 5 passes before a Jack Dwyer ball over their fullback was misjudged and Joe Mawson took full advantage, running through and squeezing it under the keeper. 1-0 up at HT. Our opponents scored pretty quickly into the second half, a great finish from the edge of the box off the post and in. We retook the lead after a trademark Reece Packer diag found Ben Weaver who sat the keeper down and rolled it into an empty net. Our opponents played some decent football and we were holding firm until a great strike from 25yards found them level again. A couple of chances for each side to win it but it ended 2-2. The effort put in by everyone was great to see, committed defending all over the pitch. Really enjoyable pre season game.
Big thanks to Theo Cobley’s brother Leon who stepped in and reffed after our ref didn’t turn up.

Reece Packer - more advanced position in midfield, good in the air, helped his full back out, set up our 2nd and unlucky not to score himself.

Results roundup 💆🏻‍♂️

1sts played Kingswood 1sts on Thursday and had a competitive game, ending 3-2 to the home side. We were 3-0 down with around 20 to go, could have been worse without a number of Dan James saves and a Theo Cobley header off the line. But we never gave in, Reece Packers superb corner finished like Van Basten by Jack Hussey. After some good work outwide by the Davis brothers Will + Ed the later squared it to Lewis wynn who scored. Sadly gave ourselves too much to do, 3-2 loss. Definitely wasn’t a good performance from the lads, but an encouraging last 20.
MOTM; Jacob Bright - got on the ball, barely giving it away. Strong in a tackle and matched their midfield physically.

Ressies have now won back to back games! A 3-0 win vs Rock Crusaders res this morning.
2-0 up at HT, via goals from Sam Makepeace and then Paddy Watson. Lewis Wynn scored in the second half to seal the win. Solid at the back, but some shooting practice needed perhaps.

Ressies winners 🙌🏻

Ressies made the trip to Kingswood to play their ressies, always a good pre season game. We ran out 4-2 winners in the end.

Lewis Wynn opened the scoring, being played through down the right and stabbing it home. A Penalty either side of a Kingswood goal put us into the break 3-1 up. The first penalty scored by Paddy Watson, the second won and scored by Kieran Sutton. Kingswood scored a great goal to put them in touching distance as the game got tight. But it was settled in the end via a Wynnie corner eventually turned in by Paddy for his second of the evening. Game ending 4-2! Squad of 18 all getting valuable minutes and playing their part in securing the win. And mention to last minute stand in keeper Reece Packer who did a great job.
MOTM; Paddy Watson - superb performance out wide, up and down the flanks, scored two goals and was a threat all game 👏🏻

Ressies played, and lost.

Ressies played their opening pre season game and were beaten comfortably in the end by a good Tormarton res side.

The game started really poorly when the bloody ref didn’t turn up. James Payne heroically stood in and had an incredible game, getting everything right and not missing one thing.
Tormarton played some really good football for the majority of the game and scored a few tidy goals to their credit.
We had spells of decent possession, and some threatening attacks during the game but not as often as our opponents. A number of new players donned the FCUOY shirt though which was great to see. The effort from the boys was superb, despite going a number of goals behind. Our goal scored by new lad Ed Polonic who scored a banger from 25 yards cutting in from the left. Another new boy Curtis Minchin also scored! But sadly in the wrong net 🫠🤣. Plenty to work on as we get closer to the season.
MOTM; Theo Cobley - another good performance from the youngster, good on the ball and put in a lot of effort in Cm.
