Representation matters. 🌈

For LGBTQ+ young people in care, having a home where they feel seen, accepted and understood can be life-changing.

Research shows that foster carers play a vital role in providing acceptance, stability and sensitivity for LGBTQ+ young people navigating identity and stigma.

A diverse fostering community helps every child feel they belong.

This Pride Month, we’re celebrating Fostering with Pride. 🌈

Fostering is for people from all walks of life – including LGBTQ+ individuals and couples. What matters isn’t who you are, but the love, stability and support you can offer a child.

There are thousands of children across the UK who need safe, nurturing homes and we need more people like you to step forward.

✨ Let’s challenge outdated perceptions of who can foster
✨ Let’s celebrate diverse families
✨ Let’s build a more inclusive future for children

That’s a wrap on Foster Care Fortnight! 🎉

We’ve had a brilliant couple of weeks — sharing our This is Fostering in South Glos video, raising awareness of our role as corporate parents with colleagues across the council, celebrating our longest-serving foster carers at a fantastic awards event, and shining a light on the support available through our Mockingbird programme and Waypoint service.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported, shared, and got involved — especially our incredible fostering families and the people behind them. 💛

Part of our work involves Working Alongside Young People and Others In Their Networks Therapeutically. We call this service WAYPOINT.

WAYPOINT provides trauma‑informed, therapeutically‑informed support to foster carers, the children they care for, and the children of foster carers - helping to strengthen relationships, stabilise placements, and ensure every member of the fostering family feels supported and understood. 💜
