“Squeeze your pelvic floor.”
It’s a cue we hear a LOT in Pilates and exercise classes.
But your pelvic floor isn’t simply something to switch on, pull up and hold there.
It’s part of a dynamic, responsive system that needs to support, respond and recoil as you breathe and move.
Sometimes it needs to contract.
Sometimes it needs to lengthen and yield.
And importantly, it needs to be able to move between the two.
For me, this is where thinking about the Pelvic Floor as something adaptable rather than fixed can completely change the way you approach movement.
So no — squeezing your pelvic floor isn’t wrong.
But more squeezing doesn’t automatically mean better function.
Think responsive. Think adaptable. Think springy.
