❤️ A Father’s Day that changed everything.
In June 2023, Rick was enjoying a Sunday ride with Green Hammerton Cycling Club when he suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest and crashed at 20mph.
What happened next saved his life.
Fellow cyclist and GP Dr Tom Polito immediately started CPR. Off-duty medical professionals stopped to help. Paramedics restarted Rick’s heart with a defibrillator after he had stopped breathing for 9 minutes. Yorkshire Air Ambulance crews then provided critical care at the scene before transferring him to hospital.
Against the odds, Rick survived.
Cardiac arrest survival rates are around 1 in 10, so Rick and his family know just how fortunate they are. While his injuries have been life-changing, they remain incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part in his rescue and recovery.
