Tigresses v Hamilton Panthers

The second game of the York Girls Football League season took us to the Little Knavesmire, where we faced new opponents Hamilton Panthers. The setting was perfect for football.

The opening ten minutes were evenly matched, with both sides battling for control and neither giving an inch. The midfield was tight, physical, and competitive, setting the tone for the rest of the match.

After ten minutes, the breakthrough came. Peggy raced clear, showed brilliant composure to round the goalkeeper, and slotted home to put the Tigresses 1–0 up. A moment of quality in a cagey start.

The midfield battle continued, with Alisha, Abbie, and Ella H working relentlessly to win second balls and keep us on the front foot. Just before half‑time, we struck again. Abbie found space and finished smartly to send us into the break 2–0 ahead — a huge goal at a crucial moment.

The half‑time message was simple: same again, but work even harder to win possession. The girls responded perfectly.

In the 62nd minute, Abbie produced a moment of brilliance, firing from outside the box to make it 3–0. Three minutes later, Brooke stepped up for a free‑kick from 25 yards and finished superbly into the net — a stunning strike that put us 4–0 up and sealed the result.

A strong away performance, full of work rate, discipline, and moments of real quality.

New position, new responsibilities, and she absolutely thrived. Intelligent positioning, strong tackling, and huge influence in her defensive duties.

Strensall Tigresses v Bishopthorpe

Our season kicked off at Durlston Drive this morning, which looked absolutely superb — the kind of surface that invites good football — and the girls wasted no time settling into the game.

Freya opened the scoring with a composed finish into the bottom corner, a calm moment in a fast start that gave us a perfect platform. Bishopthorpe responded quickly to level the game, but the Tigresses kept their tempo high and continued to find pockets of space.

In the 21st minute, Lily raced clear, showing brilliant pace and determination, before slotting home to put us 2–1 up.

The second half couldn’t have started any better. Straight from kick‑off, Peggy pounced with a great goal — sharp movement, clean contact, and a finish that gave the keeper no chance. A huge moment that swung momentum firmly our way.

We continued to push, and in the 42nd minute Isla wrapped things up. She beat her player superbly, stayed composed, and finished with real quality to make it 4–1 and seal a strong performance from the girls. Bishopthorpe scored late on to end the game 4-2

A confident display on a brilliant pitch, with goals shared across the team and plenty of positives to take forward.

🐯 Pre‑Season Friendly vs Bedale 🐯

Another excellent pre‑season run‑out this morning as we travelled over to Bedale — a side we faced last season, so we knew it would be a strong test for both teams. It certainly lived up to that.

With familiar faces mixing alongside new recruits, this was a great opportunity for the girls to build connections, work as a unit, and start putting our pre‑season training into practice.

The game itself was closely contested throughout, ending in a well‑deserved 3–3 draw. Our goals came from Abby, Ella H, and Peggy, rounding off a competitive and encouraging performance.

🖤💛Pre Season Friendly vs Wetherby Athletic🖤💛

The Tigresses kicked off their pre‑season on Saturday with a really entertaining game against Wetherby Athletic, with chances flying in at both ends.

Wetherby took an early lead, but the girls settled, grew into the game, and Freya calmly slotted home the equaliser after a great passage of play.

The second half brought more good football and a handful of half‑chances for both sides, with each goalkeeper standing strong when called upon. In the end, it was a competitive, high‑energy run‑out — exactly what the girls needed as the start of the season edges closer.

Plenty of positives, plenty of minutes in the legs, and a solid first step into pre‑season.
