South Cave Tournament Review

Another weekend, another tournament for our Tigresses — this time over in South Cave.

With two groups of six, the girls opened their day against East Riding Rangers Blacks. A strong, confident start saw them take a 1–0 win.
Next up was AFC Grimsby — a tight, competitive game with a moment that clearly shook the girls, and they were edged out 2–1.

Game three brought yet another meeting with our York League rivals. After going 1–0 down, the girls showed real character to battle back and earn a deserved 1–1 draw.
South Cave Sharks followed — a side with a 100% record so far. They went ahead early, but Erin produced a superb finish to secure another 1–1 result.

The final group game was against South Cave Jaguars, and the Tigresses delivered their best performance of the group. Brilliant football all round and excellent goals from Abbie, Erin and Amelia sealed a 4–1 win to close out the group stage.

Finishing joint‑second meant progression to the Europa League semi‑final, where East Riding Reds awaited. By now the girls were flying — clinical finishing from Freya, Abbie and Amelia powered them to a dominant 5–0 victory and a place in the final.

The final was against Cottingham — a team we’ve met many times over the years in tournaments and always a tough opponent. Both sides defended superbly, cancelling each other out. Chances came and went, but neither team could find the breakthrough… so it went to penalties.

The Tigresses have had some rotten luck in shootouts recently, and unfortunately it continued — finishing runners‑up after a brilliant effort.

Every single player played their part today:
Kelsey with some outstanding saves;
rock‑solid defending from Olivia, Ella C and Lily;
and excellent attacking play from Lacey, Abbie, Freya, Amelia and Erin.

A superb tournament hosted by South Cave — and we go again next Sunday as we head to the Hessle Tournament.

Bridlington Beach Tournament Review

The annual beach tournament was the next stop for our Tigresses, with two teams entered at one of our favourite weekends of the year. With the biggest number of entries we’ve ever seen and teams travelling from across Yorkshire and beyond, the stage was set for a fantastic day of football.

Tigresses Yellows – coached by Tony

The Yellows flew out of the blocks with a strong opening win against Rothwell Town Wildcats. A hard‑earned draw followed against Morley Green before another excellent performance against Preston AFC Whites, with Abbie, Erin and Megan all on the scoresheet.

Game four saw the girls continue their momentum against Kingswood, with Abbie’s quick feet creating space for two goals and Erin adding another to secure the points.

Next up were Wetherby, who took an early lead and handed us our first defeat of the group. The girls responded brilliantly in the final group game against Tingley, scoring some superb goals to finish on a high.

Their efforts secured 2nd place in the group and a spot in the quarter‑finals, where they faced familiar York League rivals Wigginton Grasshoppers. The girls stepped up again, earning a deserved 2–0 win thanks to goals from Abbie and Erin.

Into the semi‑finals, the Yellows met Ossett Town in a tight, physical contest. Despite battling across every area of the pitch, Ossett took their chances, bringing our strong run to an end.

A brilliant effort all day from Pippa, Alisha, Megan, Fleur, Olivia, Abbie and Erin, who scored some fantastic goals and played with real spirit.

---

Tigresses Blacks – coached by Tim

The Blacks also impressed, finishing 2nd in their group after strong performances against Rothwell Town, Wetherby, Morley Glen, Marley YC, Scarborough and Kingswood. Superb goals from Ella H, Betsy, Amelia and Freya helped the girls progress into the quarter‑finals against Pontefract Colliers.

In a closely fought game, the Blacks edged a 1–0 win to book a semi‑final spot against Sheffield Wednesday — the same side who knocked them out at this stage last year. The girls battled from the first whistle to the last, pushing a very organised team all the way, but narrowly missed out. Sheffield Wednesday went on to deservedly win the tournament overall.

Special mention to Kelsey, who stepped up in goal and made some outstanding saves, and to Evie, Amber, Betsy, Ella H, Freya, Ella C and Amelia, all of whom delivered superb performances and plenty of smiles throughout the day.

---

Another brilliant tournament weekend for the Tigresses — and no time to rest, as we head to South Cave on Saturday for another 6‑a‑side challenge.

Strensall Tournament Review

Saturday saw us host our annual Strensall Tigresses Tournament, and this time it was the turn of our U14 Girls to kick off their summer tournament season in style.

On a red‑hot afternoon in Strensall, 15 teams arrived ready to battle it out for the Trophy and Plate titles. With three Tigresses teams entered and strong representation from across the York U14 Girls League, it promised to be a fantastic afternoon of football — and it delivered.

Group Stages:

Group A – Tigresses (coaches Luffy & Becky)

A strong group performance saw the girls collect 7 points from 4 games, finishing runners‑up to York RI Pumas. Abbie lit up the opening match with four superb goals, helping the team qualify for the Trophy Quarter‑Finals.

Group B – Tigresses Yellows (coach Tim)

The Yellows were in brilliant form, winning all four games in a tight, competitive group. Their perfect record secured top spot and a place in the Trophy Quarter‑Finals.

Group C – Tigresses Blacks (coach Tony)

The Blacks matched the Yellows with four wins from four, showing real quality throughout. Amelia, Isla and Megan produced some outstanding goals as the team topped the group and moved into the Trophy Quarter‑Finals.

Knockout Stages:

Quarter‑Finals

A Tigresses derby kicked off the knockout rounds as Tigresses faced Tigresses Blacks. It was a brilliant, end‑to‑end contest:

• Amelia put the Blacks ahead
• Lacey hit back with two composed finishes to turn the game around
• Alisha struck from her own half to level it at 2–2
• Isla showed quick feet late on to seal a 3–2 win for the Blacks

Tigresses Yellows faced Poppleton Tigresses in another high‑scoring tie, coming away 4–2 winners to book their place in the semi‑finals.

Semi‑Finals:

Tigresses Blacks met York RI Pumas in a tight, high‑quality game, but the Pumas took their chances and progressed with a 2–0 win.

Tigresses Yellows faced York RI in the other semi‑final, edging a close contest 1–0 to reach the Trophy Final.

Trophy Final – Tigresses Yellows vs York RI Pumas

The final was a brilliant advert for girls’ football — end‑to‑end, committed, and full of quality. Both goalkeepers produced outstanding saves, and neither side could find a breakthrough in normal time.

Penalties were needed.

After a couple of early misses, Kelsey stepped up with confidence and buried her penalty into the bottom corner to win the Trophy for the Tigresses Yellows.

A brilliant moment for the girls and a fantastic way to finish the day.

A Fantastic Day of Football, It was an excellent tournament from start to finish, with superb football on show from every team involved. This marks the start of a busy summer for our U14 Tigresses, who head to the Bridlington Tournament next weekend.

County Cup Final Match Report

Our final game of the 2025/26 season came in the North Riding U14 Girls County Cup Final, hosted by Thirsk Falcons at Sowerby Sports Village.

After last week’s Cup Final at the LNER Stadium, this was another brilliant occasion for the girls. We knew very little about Middlesbrough beyond their results and their position near the top of the Russell Foster League — but the girls approached the challenge in fantastic style.

The first half was played against a strong wind, and it was probably the toughest 35 minutes of football the girls have faced all season. Middlesbrough pinned us back for long spells, but the effort, bravery, and commitment from every player was outstanding. They threw themselves in front of shots, made big tackles, and once again Pippa produced several superb saves to keep us in the game. Boro eventually broke the deadlock with a well‑taken goal, but going in at half‑time just 1–0 down — with the wind behind us for the second half — the girls were confident they could turn things around.

We started the second half on the front foot, pressing higher and creating some great moments. The Middlesbrough keeper pulled off some top saves, and a couple of our efforts went agonisingly wide — moments that could easily have swung the game our way. With ten minutes to go we pushed bodies forward in search of the equaliser, but were caught on the counter and conceded a late second goal. The match finished 2–0.

The girls gave absolutely everything. Every single one of them walked off knowing they had left it all on the pitch. They held their heads high, having gone toe‑to‑toe for 70 minutes with a genuinely top side.

Massive thankyou to everyone for following our journey this season, we have just over a week off until we start our tournament season.

Huge thankyou to all of our sponsors this season, we really appreciate it.

York U14 Girls FA Cup Final Report

Fresh from securing the U14 Girls League title in a dramatic final‑day finish, the Tigresses had the honour of stepping onto the pitch at the LNER Community Stadium for the FA Cup Final against Wigginton Grasshoppers. Having already faced them three times this season — all tight, hard‑fought encounters — everyone knew this would be a game decided by the finest of margins.

The day began in style. Wearing their sponsored Cup Final T‑shirts, the girls gathered at Durlston Drive to board a Pullman’s coach, kindly provided by York Pullman Bus Company. A brilliant experience and a memory they’ll carry with them for years.

A heavy downpour before and during the game made the surface slick and difficult to manage. And within just 20 seconds of kick‑off, a long ball forward skidded through and found its way into the net, giving Wigginton an early 1–0 lead. It was a shock, and nerves were clear to see, but the coaches urged calm — plenty of time, trust the football, stick to our identity.

After around 15 minutes the Tigresses settled, grew into the game, and began to create chances. Erin pressed relentlessly, chasing every ball, and her hard work paid off in the 27th minute when she won possession in the box and finished calmly to level the score. The girls continued to push, and we went into half‑time at 1–1.

The message at the break was simple: more of the same. And the girls delivered. On a huge pitch they worked tirelessly, creating opportunities while the defence stayed disciplined and composed. Pippa produced a world‑class save to keep the game level.

Despite chances at both ends, neither team could find a winner, and the final headed to the dreaded penalty shootout.

Penalties are always a lottery, and this time fortune favoured Wigginton. Congratulations to them — they’ve pushed us all season, finishing just a single point behind us in the league.

After the FA Cup presentations, the Tigresses were awarded their league‑winning trophy and medals, giving the girls the chance to lift the shield in front of the supporters — a proud moment and a reminder of what they’ve achieved this season.

The journey isn’t over. On 20th May, the girls travel to Sowerby Sports Village to face Middlesbrough in the U14 Girls County Cup Final — the final chapter of an incredible season.

What an uunbelievable experience for our Tigresses last night, playing in the U14 Girls FA Cup final at the LNER stadium against Wigginton Grasshoppers, full match report to follow but a fantastic game between 2 well matched teams that went all the way to dreaded penalties after a 1-1 result.

Unfortunately someone has to lose and we just missed out 3-2 on pens. The girls gave everything and we are so proud of them all 🖤💛
