Sadly after having eyes on both the forecast and the bay, this evening organised solstice paddle in Filey will not be going ahead due to unsuitable conditions for the group.

However, at present with better weather forecast tomorrow , the morning sunrise paddle will currentlystill be going ahead.

Today’s classroom had no walls— just water, wind, and wide-open perspective.

Blulogix had the privilege of taking Dean out on one of our 1:2:1 guided sea kayaking trips at Runswick Bay with our new leader Blulogix Oli.

The wind was strong but this didn’t stop the group enjoying the awesome views & paddling around Runswick & Beyond.

These kinds of experiences shape not just skills, but confidence . It’s always inspiring to see people rise to the challenge and discover new strength in unfamiliar places.

What a tragic accident that has finally come to a conclusion, my heart sooo goes out to the families who are grieving right now in Wales.

As a watersport coach/leader myself , and I’m sure my peers as professional watersport leaders themselves would agree that everyone we aim to take out on the water has a great time, but, at the same time 110% in a safe manner & environment . What is often forgotten though is the planning behind the scenes and the many years of experience and £ 1000’s spent on training courses we do which goes on to make this happen safely.

I’m sure this leader didn’t go out to harm anyone that fateful day , but its sad to see one of the overriding factors found in this case ,of the person running the tragic trip was the lack of “suitable qualification(s) for this kind of activity” and the environment it was run on.

Sadly in the paddle board industry there are far to many people who’ve had a few lessons and think this means they can set up themselves up as coaches and take unprecedented risks.

I Know a qualification doesn’t always guarantee everything, but it does go along way towards the correct path for doing the right thing. So why would you gamble any other way.

Owner of paddleboarding company jailed over deaths of four people in Pembrokeshire Paul O'Dwyer, 42, Andrea Powell, 41, Morgan Rogers, 24, and Nicola Wheatley, 40, died after they got into difficulty while paddleboarding over a weir in the River Cleddau in October 2021.

British Surf Kayaking Champs – Volunteer Support Kayaker Required

March 21 – 23 2025

Cayton Bay in Scarborough is playing host to the British surf Kayaking champs this year and we would really appreciate any help from an additional kayaker(s) to help with water support for the event.

Ideally you will have experience in paddling on the sea or surf, you will be part of a Kayak safety crew that is organised already

Ideally you be need for the 3 days but if not Individual days would also work

Solstice Paddles At Filey 2025 (Active Filey)

We are running two guided paddling sessions on the coast (conditions dependent) in conjunction with the summer Solstice by our team of leaders

Session 1 - 20th June (sunset) Sunset - Times TBC on the water
Session 2 - 21St june ( Sunrise ) , Time TBC on the water.

These sessions are open to Kayakers & PaddleBoarders

Pfds and suitable paddling and equipment and clothing to be worn at the event

All we ask is you book on to let us know you are attending, for numbers & safety.

We just ask for a donation to either MENCAP or a MND charity
