KIRKBYMOORSIDE 68 (8) v (0) 37 MAlton
Kirkbymoorside secured the Batagas League title for the 3rd season in a row tonight with a resounding 8-0 home win over nearest challengers Malton. The first 5 ends were a very tight and cagey affair with a strong Malton team looking to upset Kirkby’s rhythm, but this Kirkby team showed their class and gradually moved ahead on all three rinks with a superb team display. The final points score was 68-37 to Kirkby. Our final match of the season is away to Strensall on Monday August 17th 2026 when we will aim to extend our winning run to 23 matches (including cup ties) since we lost the first league match of the season to Malton.
Kirkbymoorside will play the Rest of the League on Monday August 24th 2026 at Kirkbymoorside at 6:15 pm and everyone is welcome to come along and help us celebrate winning the league and the Fred Husband Trophy for the 3rd year in a row.

MONDAY AUGUST 3RD 2026
SHERIFF HUTTON 40 (2) V (6) 57 KIRKBYMOORSIDE
Kirkby continued the pursuit of a 3rd consecutive title with a 6 – 2 victory at Sheriff Hutton. With a 12 point lead over nearest challengers, Malton, and 3 matches to play Kirkby has a bit of a cushion but with nearest rivals Malton and Strensall to play and a tough match away to Pickering nothing can be taken for granted. In this match Kirkby were up against a team who knew how their green played and didn’t give Kirkby an easy ride, but as usual Kirkby found a way to take the match by 57 – 40.

FRED HUSBAND TROPHY FINAL
PICKERING 41 V 49 KIRKBYMOORSIDE
Kirkbymoorside and Pickering contested the Final of the Fred Husband Trophy at Swinton. Kirkby were trying to win the trophy for the 3rd year in a row and were up against a particularly good Pickering team who had other ideas. On a very challenging green Pickering started the better and after 5 ends led the contest 13 – 7. It was a remarkably close contest throughout and after the 10th end Pickering held a 27 – 20 lead. Pickering increased their lead over Kirkby to 38 – 27 by the 14th end and at that point were looking the favourites to lift the trophy. Then came the final charge from KMS. Not for the first time this season Kirkby found a way to come back in the final 4 ends to take the match scoring 22 points against Pickerings 3 and retain the trophy for the 3rd year in a row with a final score of 49 – 41. Commiserations to Pickering who for most of this match were on top. KMS now move on to the final 4 league games and the opportunity to retain the league title for the 3rd year running.
Next match: Monday August 3rd away to Sheriff Hutton 6:30 pm start

It wasn’t the result to be for Kirkbymoorside bowling club last night in the Waltham cup Final losing to a strong Settrington team.
The first 5 ends was a cagey affair with the scores at KMS 4-7 Settrington.
Settrington continued to score better than KMS and increased their lead and never looked back, Kirkbymoorside were always chasing the game.
The final score after 18 ends, KMS 24-35 Settrington.
Many congratulations to Settrington on winning the Waltham cup for the first time, a well deserved win.

SETTRINGTON 43 (2) v (6) 44 KIRKBYMOORSIDE
What a close game this was. While it is never easy going to Settrington, negotiating a particularly challenging green, as well as some extremely good bowlers this one was too close for comfort. Settrington gave Kirkby a real run for their money and came remarkably close to causing an upset to Kirkby’s title aspirations. The overall s owing was tight throughout with neither side getting away from the other. At the halfway stage Settrington held a slender 5-point lead 22 – 16. 14 ends and Kirkby had turned the aggregate around to lead 34-32. 16 ends and Kirby had increased their lead to 39-34. Then came squeaky bum time. Settrington came back with a late run and took the final two ends 9-5 to give Kirkby the victory by the smallest of margins. Well done to Settrington for such a cracking game tonight and well done to Kirkby for sticking in and holding on for what could prove to be a vital 6 points
