Saturday 6th June 2nd XI match report:

Beckwithshaw 267-4 (40)

Stockton&Hopgrove Cc 157 all out (35.3)

A tough weekend for the seconds as they traveled to a tough Beckwithshaw team.

On a rainy afternoon Stockton won the toss and decided to have a bowl looking to make use of the wet conditions.

Beckwithshaw however looked to make a strong start with an opening partnership of 159 capitalising on missed opportunities for wickets.

With a large score looking likely and an impressive 143(102) from 18 year old Ben Eckard Stockton dug in with a few quick wickets from Dave Helsdon 2-28-6 in the back end of the innings to stem the flow of runs, beckwithshaw finished their innings 267-4

Stockton looked to start positively with Brad wood 28 (43) and Savio Braganza 26 (25) but constant wickets throughout proved too much for the Stockton line up who finished 157 all out with beckwithshaw winning by 110 runs.

Stockton and Hopgrove 2nds managed there first league victory of the Season in style.

After loosing the toss against a strong Melbourne side they were asked to bowl, and despite a pretty much unplayable bowling performance from Reagan Smallwood (10-0-50-3) they ended up chasing the ball all around the park, as most of the Melbourne batsmen got in and made a score, with the innings closing at 269 for 6. With top scores from Jamie Butt(78) and Oli Steels (57)

Stockton had scored over 200 in each of there defeats on a Saturday so far this year, so were optimistic at the break that with a good start they could get close.

They got a cracking start thanks to Savio Breganza (95) and Brad Wood (38), putting on 110 for the first wicket. Ferg Ward (70 not out) and Reagan (33 not out) saw the game home in the 36th over. Stockton loosing just 3 wickets in the chase.

🏏 Stockton & Hopgrove CC 1st XI cruise to 7-wicket victory at Ovington
Stockton & Hopgrove produced a superb all-round performance on Saturday to secure a comfortable 7-wicket win away to Ovington CC 2nd XI.
After winning the toss and electing to field, Stockton & Hopgrove's bowlers laid the foundations for victory with a disciplined display that restricted the hosts to 154-7 from their 40 overs. Rich Kerrison led the attack brilliantly, returning figures of 3-24 from his 10 overs, while Jamie Kerrison (1-10 from 6) and Matt Bradshaw (1-15 from 5) applied relentless pressure and kept the scoring rate firmly in check.
Further wickets for Rathnayake Athula and Kasun Wijesinghe ensured Ovington were never able to gain real momentum, with the visitors backing up the bowling effort with a sharp display in the field.
Chasing 155 for victory, Stockton & Hopgrove's top order made sure there would be no late drama. Rob Cockerill anchored the innings superbly with a composed 53 from 61 balls, setting the platform for the chase. Kasun Wijesinghe then kept the scoreboard moving with an entertaining 41 from 42 deliveries, before Tom Binns guided the side home with an unbeaten 36 from just 33 balls.
Reaching 157-3 in only 23.5 overs, Stockton & Hopgrove completed the chase with more than 16 overs to spare, underlining their dominance throughout the afternoon.
A complete team performance with contributions across the board sees the 1st XI collect maximum points. up the Hopgrove! 🏏

Weekend Results: Narrow Defeat in Competitive Opener

The 2nd XI were narrowly beaten at home to Wheldrake 2s in a closely contested opening game of the season.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Stockton produced a strong batting display to post 220–7 from their 40 overs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Binns was the standout performer with a well-made 69, while valuable contributions throughout the order ensured the innings finished with good momentum.

In response, Wheldrake started confidently and appeared to be in control for much of the chase. However, Stockton showed great determination in the field, with two excellent run-outs from Tom Binns shifting the momentum and bringing the game back into the balance.

Despite the fightback, Wheldrake held their nerve to reach the target with nine balls remaining.

A very encouraging performance overall, with plenty to take forward and build on in the coming weeks.
