🏏 2nd XI Finish the Season on a High! 💚

The Stockton & Hopgrove CC 2nd XI finished the season in style with a closely fought 4-wicket victory over local rivals Heworth CC at The Hopgrove! 💪

Bowling first, the lads put in a fantastic team performance to restrict Heworth to 212-7 from their 40 overs, with wickets shared around the team.

With the bat, it was another strong all-round effort:

🏏 Savio Braganza – 38
🏏 Ben Botterill – 36
🏏 Daminda Bandara – 35
🏏 R Athula – 19 off just 8 balls* to finish the chase in style! 🔥

S&H reached 216-6 in 34.1 overs to secure a well-earned 4-wicket win.

It’s been a tough season for the 2s in a very competitive Division 5, coming up against some strong sides. However, 5 league wins and an excellent Midgley Cup run all the way to the final give plenty of positives to take forward. 👏

A huge thank you to everyone who has played for and supported the 2nd XI this season. Every player has played their part, and the effort throughout the season has been fantastic.

🏆 CHAMPIONS! 🏆

A fantastic win in the final game of the season confirms Stockton & Hopgrove 1st XI as Champions of Division 3 Galtres and promotion to Division 2! 💚🏏

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Stockton got off to a great start with Dan Durkin making 54 and a solid opening partnership with Rob Cockerill. Valuable contributions throughout the middle and lower order from Rich Kerrison, Jamie Kerrison, Harry Paver and Tom Williams helped Stockton reach a competitive 248 all out from 39.2 overs.

With the ball, Stockton got off to the perfect start, with Jamie Kerrison taking 3 wickets in his first 4 overs on his way to excellent figures of 3-19. Bolton Percy showed plenty of resilience in the middle, with George Jones making a well-made 74, but Stockton continued to take regular wickets and kept the pressure on with some tight bowling.

Dean Tyler finished with 3-42, playing a big part in restricting Bolton Percy to 208/9 from their 40 overs, giving Stockton a deserved 40-run victory and securing the league title. 🏆

A brilliant team performance to finish off what has been another fantastic season, with some outstanding individual performances along the way. A huge amount of hard work, commitment and effort has gone in from everyone who has played throughout the season, and this promotion is a reward for that effort.

And that’s now three seasons in a row promoted as Champions — an unbelievable achievement! 🏆🏆🏆

🏏 Stockton Confirm Promotion With Dominant Win at the Top of the Table 🏏

Stockton & Hopgrove CC have confirmed promotion with a superb 9-wicket victory over league leaders Sheriff Hutton Bridge CC

Winning the toss and electing to field, Stockton produced an excellent bowling and fielding performance to restrict the league leaders to 172/7 from their 40 overs.

There were wickets for Jamie Kerrison (1/9), Matt Bradshaw (1/26), Dean Tyler (1/35) and Kasun Wijesinghe (2/35), with the remaining wickets falling to the fielding side. Sheriff Hutton Bridge’s main contributions came from Sam Nellist (56), Dan Tuite (39)* and Geoff Schofield (32), but Stockton kept things under control throughout.

The response with the bat was nothing short of dominant.

Dan Durkin led the way with a superb unbeaten 79 from 62 balls, including 15 fours and two sixes, while Kasun Wijesinghe produced a brilliant attacking innings of 81 from just 45 balls, smashing six fours and eight sixes at a strike rate of 180.

The pair put on the vast majority of the runs as Stockton raced to 173/1 in just 18.2 overs, sealing a convincing nine-wicket victory and confirming promotion.

With one game of the season remaining, Stockton can now go up as champions for the third consecutive season with a win against Bolton Percy next week.

A fantastic achievement by everyone involved, and a fitting reward for what has been another outstanding season.

A huge thank you to Kenny Lawson and everyone at Kelfield CC for hosting us at their ground. A great day out for everyone involved, made even better with a few well-earned celebratory beers after the game! 🍻

🏆 MIDGLEY CUP FINAL 🏆

A huge congratulations to Stockton & Hopgrove CC 2nd XI on reaching the Midgley Cup Final! 👏🏏

After a fantastic cup run, the lads will now face The Century CC 1st XI in the final.

Match Report – Sherburn CC 2nd XI vs Stockton & Hopgrove CC 2nd XI

Stockton & Hopgrove 2s secured a 52-run win after a strong all-round display.

Batting first, they posted 163/3 (20 overs). Dave Helsdon top-scored with 57 off 38 balls (10 fours, 1 six), supported by Fergus Ward (43 )* and Tom Williams (17)*.

Sherburn were restricted to 111/7. Glenn Bottterill led the attack with 2-19 (4 overs), while Stan Disbury took 2 wickets. R Athula was economical taking a key wicket in his first over with 1-11 (4 overs) as Stockton maintained control throughout.

A solid batting and bowling performance saw Stockton & Hopgrove 2s complete a deserved win and continue their cup run into the final.

Saturday 11 July

1st XI beat New Earswick 2nd XI by 172 runs

A dominant all-round display saw Stockton & Hopgrove pile up 300/7 before bowling New Earswick out for 128 inside 35 overs.

2nd XI lost to The Century CC 1st XI by 198 runs

A tough afternoon for the 2s, with Century posting 288/4 before Stockton & Hopgrove were dismissed for 90.

1st XI beat Yapham 2nd XI by 7 wickets

The bowlers restricted Yapham to 145/9, and the chase was completed comfortably with 146/3 in 23.2 overs.

2nd XI lost to Heworth 3rd XI by 6 wickets

After posting 190/5, the visitors reached 192/4 with just over two overs to spare.

Saturday 25 July

1st XI beat Hovingham 1st XI by 9 wickets

One of the performances of the season so far. Hovingham made 230/6, but Stockton & Hopgrove stormed to 231/1 in only 29.1 overs to stay firmly at the top end of the table.

2nd XI lost to The Century CC 1st XI by 9 wickets

The 2s were bowled out for 123, and Century replied with 126/1.

1st XI awarded victory after Bishopthorpe conceded

The 1st XI picked up maximum points after Bishopthorpe conceded the fixture.

2nd XI beat Wheldrake 2nd XI by 2 wickets

A brilliant close win for the 2s. Wheldrake were bowled out for 132, and Stockton & Hopgrove held their nerve to reach 133/8 in 36.5 overs.

Match Report Saturday 4th July: Stockton&Hopgrove 2nd XI vs Malton & Old Malton 4th XI.

After loosing the toss Stockton were asked to bat.

Stockton looked to be in real trouble as they fell to 38-7 from 13 overs! However Steve Wood 24(64) and Glynn Botteril 36(71) managed provide a bit of fight back and pushed Stockton up to 144 All Out. The pick of Maltons bowlers B Mureverwi 10-39-3

Even with 2 early wickets for Stockton Malton managed to chase down the total within 22 overs with M Kendrew making 79 not out and C Palmer 47 not out.

A tough loss but we go again next week!
