LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 🏆

With an incredible +65 goal difference, only one loss all season, and a run of dominant performances, our ladies have stormed their way to the league title and secured promotion for next season 🙌🏼🙌🏼

This achievement is even more impressive given the team stepped into a brand-new league to them this year. After many seasons competing in the North Yorkshire divisions, an England Hockey restructure placed us into the YNE North East Division 4 Tees league — a new challenge and a step into the unknown.

Out of 18 scheduled fixtures, 6 were cancelled through no fault of our own, but the squad never let that halt their momentum. They kept pushing, stayed focused, and fully earned their place at the top.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the club this season — our spectators, umpires, coaches, sponsors, committee, and of course every single one of our amazing ladies ❤️

We can’t wait to take on next season with you all! 🏑

Happy International Women’s Day to all the brilliant women who make our team what it is 💙🏑

Pickering Ladies v Northallerton 3s
This week Pickering welcomed Northallerton 3s to Swainsea Lane.
The push back time was put back as efforts were made to address some issues with the pitch, several patches needing sand application due to lingering frost.
With the sun shining gloriously and ambient temperatures rising by the minute, the game finally got underway at 12.00
It was an even affair to start with, neither side really dominating proceedings. With 15 minutes gone Pickering took the lead, Lauren Turnbull picking up the ball in the centre of the pitch , driving forward towards the D and hitting it in , finding Chelsea Pepper who fired home from an acute angle.
The home side had the upper hand for the remainder of the half but were kept at bay by some resolute defending by the visitors.
The second half was a more even affair with almost end to end action. Both sides saw a good amount of action in the attacking D’s along with a number of short corner’s.
However both defences along with their keepers held firm with the game ending at 1-0 to Pickering.
A really good game of Hockey with two evenly matched sides giving their all , also great to see a number of youngsters on the pitch from both sides, more than holding their own.
The award for Player of the match was shared by Chloe Garbutt and Ellie Allan, well done to all.
Next week is a free week,Darlington 3s being the visitors on the 28th of February.

Apologies for the delay😅
Durham 4s v Pickering Ladies
This week saw Pickering embarking on one of their longer journeys to take on Durham 4s. The pitch was only declared fit to play this morning following water logging after all the recent wet weather, it however still played on the slow side.
The game got off to a scrappy start with the visitors struggling to string any passing play together, and the enthusiastic youngsters on the opposition closing down very quickly.
The first goal came on 9 minutes, Emma Cockerill picking the ball up on the right and pushing forward, squaring it to Tinika Crossley who’s pass into the D was hit on the turn by Chelsea Pepper to find the backboard.
Pickering continued to dominate the game but a combination of the pitch and everyone seeming to be having an off day saw the half time whistle blow with the score remaining at 1-0.
The second half started with the visitors looking to up the pace and move the ball quicker.
Unfortunately they lost young forward Eva Featherstone almost immediately as she slipped whilst trying to turn and looked to hyper extend a knee joint
A second goal came on 40 minutes, Lauren Turnbull quickly taking a sideline ball on the right, driving forward and picking out Pepper on top D, her ball forward finding Cockerill who guided it past the keeper.
Minutes later, Pickering were awarded a short for a foot in the D, Ellie Hornsby inputting to Turnbull who’s strike from top D was deflected in by Hornsby to make it 3-0
The remainder of the game saw the visitors controlling proceedings but just not able to add to the score line, the game finishing ,3-0.
Not the greatest of performances from the girls today but the win sees them still on course for the league title. A mention must go to the young home side, with a bare eleven they battled hard throughout the game.
Hopefully Eva Featherstone’s injury isn’t too serious and she can make a quick recovery. One plus point from today was the return of Ellie “ the wall “ Hall after an extended absence due to work, winning player of the match on her return.
Next week sees Northallerton visiting Pickering for a rearranged match from earlier in the season.

Redcar v Pickering Ladies

Pickering were back on the road this week with a trip to third placed Redcar.

The visitors were quick out of the blocks, the Redcar Keeper being forced to make several crucial saves in the opening minutes.

On ten minutes, Helen Evans took a quick sideline ball and fired it into the D, picking out Erin Woodhead who fired it into the net for 1-0.

Shortly after, a Redcar forward broke clear into the D but Keeper Sarah Wilkinson was quick off the mark to s***f out the danger.

Pickering then increased their lead, good work in the centre saw Lauren Turnbull pickup the ball in the centre, play it out right to Hannah Brown who played a great ball into the D for Woodhead to claim her second of the day.

From the restart, Pickering drove forward again, winning a short corner for a wild swing of the stick by a defender. A well worked routine saw the ball finding Turnbull who’s shot found the roof of the net, the strike being ruled out for being too high for a first strike.

With half time looming, the visitors won another short, Ellie Hornsby inputting to Turnbull whose powerful strike was deflected into the goal off a defenders stick, the half ending on 3-0.

The second half started with Pickering continuing to control proceedings, Hornsby winning the ball on the edge of the D and slipping a superb pass into Eva Featherstone who calmly slotted the ball through the smallest of gaps at the near post to make it 4-0.

Redcar pulled a goal back on 50 minutes, a clearance out of defence sent two players clear from the halfway line, the one with the ball on the right drove into the D , sliding the ball past Wilkinson on the tightest of angles, 4-1.

Pickering continued to push forward and with 60 minutes gone claimed a fifth goal, Izzy Hall winning the ball in the centre , driving forward and firing the ball into the D, Turnbull deflected the ball to beat the keeper.

The final whistle seeing the score line at 5-1, possibly the best display by Pickering so far this season, with every player turning in an excellent display, the player of the match went to Eva Featherstone for another strong showing up front, well done everyone.

After the game everyone headed to the “ Yorkshire Lass” for refreshments, including cakes to celebrate skipper Shannon Harpers birthday, next week sees another road trip, this time to Durham for a mid day push back.

Pickering Ladies v Danby 2
Pickering welcomed Danby to Swainsea lane for their latest game.
The game started at a pace with both teams pushing forward but with little action in the D’s. In particular, misplaced passes were letting the home side down.
The deadlock was finally broken on 26 minutes, some good work by Lauren Turnbull on the right saw the ball fired across to the back post where Emma Cockerill fired home.
The second half saw a definite improvement from the home side.Almost immediately from the off, Erin Woodhead was unlucky not to double the lead , her shot at the back post crashing into the upright with the keeper beaten.
Minutes later however , Woodhead did the business, following more determined work on the right by Turnbull, turning in the ball at the back post.
Pickering were now firmly in control, however Danby looked dangerous on the break, but the ever dependable Shannon Harper and her defence mopped up any threat that came along.
A third goal came on 62 minutes, a short corner for a foot in the D, input by Ellie Hornsby to Hannah Brown who’s strike from top D flew into the roof of the net off a defender’s stick.
Final score 3-0 to Pickering, keeping their quest to win the league on course. Player of the match went to Emma Cockerill for her hard work leading the attack.
Next week see’s the girls travelling to 3rd placed Redcar for what looks like a tough test.

Pickering Ladies v South Shields

Pickering welcomed South Shields to Swainsea Lane for their first fixture of 2026, their first game since the 15th of November.
The home side were sporting their new kit, generously sponsored by Sharon and Rob of the Sun Inn.
From the start , the visitors game plan was clear, get numbers behind the ball and hit on the break.
Pickering dominated possession, camping in the Shields half but struggled to create clear chances in the packed D. The first half concluding with the score 0-0.
Pickering upped the pace in the second half but resolute defending continued to thwart them.
With a 0-0 draw looking nailed on, a free hit from just outside the D found Eva Featherstone on the back post, her touch creeping in despite a glove from the keeper, the time on the clock- 69 minutes 50 seconds!!
A 1-0 win for Pickering which was tough on the visitors whose game plan came so close to coming off.
Player of the match was shared by Eva Featherstone and Ellie Allan, well done everyone.
