In 6 weeks time we start our season with this totally magical event at in the Yorkshire Dales National Park . It just so happens it is one if my favourites too!

Steeped in mystery and myth, promises to provide an adventure like no other...This event coincides with , which will make it even more exhilarating since this whole area exudes atmosphere when it is very dark.

We’re running this at the new moon so if clear it is perfect to observe the stars and planets - and it will be perfect conditions to practise a bit of night walking - without a torch!

Eclipse ready….. so is half of North Yorkshire. Never seen so many people at Sutton Bank and White Horse!! Great to see so many people enthusiastic about the eclipse and dark skies !

If you live in a city and you have a clear night sky you can still see objects like the Moon or the planets and some bright stars. ✨
You ‘ll be able to see around 30-40 stars. If you find yourself at a Dark Sky place on the same clear night, you’ll be able to see around 3,000 stars. This is how light pollution affects our view of the night sky, with Artificial Light at Night removing all but the very brightest objects in our sky and disconnecting us from our night sky heritage. 🌃💡

Once you've got over the excitement of the Solar Eclipse, head outdoors a bit later on Wednesday evening to see the Perseids meteor shower! It's a new moon this year - and clear skies - so this show should be amazing!

Don't forget the eclipse on Wednesday! Check out this fantastic website for more information on when to see it. Don't observe it without proper eye protection though! If you don't have glasses this website also directs you to events happening where they will have the proper glasses. Have a good evening!
