Silky water swim in the Tees. Decent entry point off the pontoon at Preston Park except for the hordes that turn up to feed the ducks right at the minute you’re dropping your trunks.

A dreich and dreary aspect on the Wolds.
Myself and Mr. Riley’s walk to the round barrow, W***y Howe and the monument commemorating the celebrated meteor landing in 1795 was however undaunted. Discovering The Anvil Arms at Wold Newton unexpectedly open for a funeral was an added bonus. Every cloud etc. etc.
Back to Scarborough for the splendid vista from Oliver’s Mount and the heavy legged descent down to the Stumble Inn for recuperative measures.

As moments go, this one I’d say is pretty perfect.

The Langdon Beck Hotel, Upper Teesdale.
I’ve been intending to head here since spotting it on an episode of Vera years back. It didn’t disappoint on any front. A warm, friendly and unpretentiously characterful place with great beer. Not the shabbiest view either.
