5 reasons you should NOT be a Pilates teacher! Because it’s not all glitz and glamour and people should be told this before paying thousands for training courses.

1. You’re a bad listener
2. You’re only doing it for insta
3. You can’t handle feedback
4. You don’t want to be a student forever
5. You hate working hard

But it is the most rewarding and fun job!😁

What would you add to the list?

Although I think the Pilates studios with screens could be making their way to the UK, I don’t think they could ever replace the skill, dedication, empathy and kindness of a real Pilates teacher.

Community means a lot in the UK and people are always searching for new groups to make friends. Pilates studios are social hubs where many people gather to move their bodies.

For some, a Pilates class is the most interaction they will have that week. A good Pilates teacher will make them feel seen and heard which a pre recorded video can’t do.

It’s hard to imagine the future in 20 years but I don’t see a future without the Pilates teachers we have around today who truly help people and love doing it!

Do you agree?

Check out my new substack article of the week out now in my bio!šŸ””

This week I’m discussing the new reformer studios opening with screens. I didn’t realise how long this model had been around for in Australia!

These screens have not replaced Pilates studios, yet. But with the rise of Ai and new technology, could this be something that investors attempt in the future?

Less teachers = lower costs but it doesn’t mean a better experience. We are lonely as a society and sometimes a Pilates class is the only time a week someone will spend around other people.

Do I think these studios are the future? No. I think they’ll grow quickly in the UK and they could potentially stop the amount of studios opening at the moment.

But I don’t think you can never beat human interaction and hands on corrections!ā€¼ļø

Have you tried one of these studios, what did you think?

These are the things that I think are worth spending money on if you have lipedemašŸ’›

Pilates - Low-impact movement improves circulation and muscle pump action (muscles contracting help push lymph fluid along), without the joint pounding that can aggravate swollen tissue.

Lymphatic drainage massage - Manual technique that manually encourages stagnant lymph fluid to move toward working drainage pathways, since lipedema tissue often has impaired lymphatic flow.

Hot saunas - Heat dilates blood vessels and can boost circulation, assists lymph fluid movement. but do note: some people with lipedema find heat actually worsens swelling and heaviness, so this one’s more individual than the others.

Anti-inflammatory diet – Lipedema tissue is prone to inflammation, so lowering inflammatory triggers (processed food, excess sugar) may help reduce pain and progression, though it won’t shrink the fat tissue itself.

Compression tights – Apply external pressure that supports veins and lymphatics and reduces fluid pooling, easing heaviness and discomfort in the legs.

Omg move over reformer, you aren’t cool anymore xoxo

It’s a new week and a new substack article! I deep dive into Lagree and what it could mean for the reformer studios if it starts to blow up like it has in the United States.

The yearly fees and the mega reformers are mega expensive. You can buy a standard contemporary reformer for Ā£2000 in the UK. Mega reformers can range from $9000-$11,000 which might be out of a lot of people’s price range. (I couldn’t find any UK prices)

Do I think it could be a competitor of the more modern reformers studios? Possibly! Do I think it will ever eliminate classical Pilates? Never.

It’ll be interesting to see where people go with this and what the next 5 years in the industry will look like. Me personally, I hope more classical studios open but people are more reluctant to pay for the training due to the costs and time required. It’s worth it though!

Have you tried Lagree. What do you think? Take a read of the article now in my biošŸ«±šŸ»ā€šŸ«²šŸ¼

Some snippets from my article for the one and only Gratz Pilates. This topic has been so important to me since I started my teaching training. How do we make Pilates teacher training accessible for neurodivergent people?

You can find the link to read in my bio where I discuss my own experience and offer suggestions and ideas to Pilates studios on how they can do better for their trainees.

Thank you to Amy Kellow ✨ Classical Pilates Teacher Trainer | Mentor for getting me in touch with Gratz. I think it’s so awesome that they included this article on their website so thank you so much gratz!!!

Being neurodiverse can sometimes feel like a burden and a superpower. I do try to keep it as positive as I can as how you speak to yourself, is how you will feel! I accept who I am and find ways to work better with my brain.🧠

Teacher training was honestly harder than my 3 year English degree. I’ve cried and I’ve laughed but I finished a comprehensive training program!

If you’ve been worried about starting Pilates teacher training because you’re neurodiverse, pleasee read this article and see that you can do it too!ā¤ļø
