YSJ Jaguars - American Football Team

Despite the result this past weekend, we were heartened as a team by the effort and determination our players showed across the entire team and we want to celebrate the performances of some of those Jags, old and new, who showed their mettle in a tough game. Starting with Special Teams MVPs we have Joe .t and Adrian ._ who both stepped up having their first ever game and had key plays booming kicks and saving possessions, showing off their talent and growing understanding of the game. Our Rookie of the Day was Robert who has advanced tremendously at his vital position on the D-Line and put in a near game-long shift for the squad. Our Offensive MVP was Theo, who at RB and Slot Receiver had most of the team’s hard won yards on offence. We had two Defensive MVPs, one from our Defensive Captain and reigning DPOY in Jay , the other from a new reign in Sam who in his first ever game had several key tackles as well as the team’s first interception of the season, running it back a few dozen yards for good measure too. Finally our Jaguars of the Day were the devastating duo in the trenches, Juanlu and Valentín , two rookies who have continuously set the tone for the whole squad both on and off the pitch as well as already becoming formidable members of our defensive unit.

With our first match of the season finally played against , we are proud to announce our Gameday Captain for the past weekend and Team Captains. For his fantastic work bringing new players onto the squad and stepping up as a rookie to be a leader and role model for the squad, our man Santi took on Gameday Captain duties for the fixture. Our Defensive Captain has been a stout pillar of our defence for several seasons now, and we are proud to have Abba lead the way there. Theo .sm1th returns as Offensive Captain and as always makes sure to rally the squad and help newer players learn their assignments. Finally, you know him, we love him, our Team Captain for the season of 25/26 is Jay Brown who is always the greatest example for all of our players and looks out for the squad first and foremost, as well as being just an absolute weapon on the field. We thank Santi for leading us this past weekend and are excited to have our Team Captains lead us out for the rest of the season.

Andy joins the Jags from the Bradford Bears, having been Head Coach at Bradford since 2022. During this time, the Bears set National records, and he led them to the playoffs for the first time in their history.

Having been involved in the sport for over 10 years, Andy brings a loud and aggressive style of football on both sides of the ball with playing experience as a Linebacker, Full back and D-Lineman.

Here at the jags we are very excited to have Andy and can’t wait to see what the year brings

Returning to YSJ for another year after his incredible season at the Yorkshire rams is our former DC now turned OC Eden and we couldn’t be happier.

After coaching for us last year on the defensive side of things Eden has decided to step more into his element and take on the offensive job as well as coaching our lineman. With him at the helm our offensive will be levelling up this year.

We are excited to introduce our new defensive coordinator .smith42

Coming over from Bradford as there DC, Joe has been around and playing the sport for 10 years, coaching mainly linebackers and dbs.

His skill and knowledge our sure to be very beneficial to the team this year and we can’t wait to see what this season brings.
