WHO’S WHO IN SIBT HISTORY? 🎣

Every face in this photograph carries a story.

Some competed. Some captained boats. Some worked behind the scenes.

Others travelled across the region and beyond to become part of the Spice Island Billfish Tournament family.

The scale stopped at 106 pounds.

For a second, nobody said anything.

The yellowfin hung between them, still carrying the marks of the fight. Salt dried on shirts.

Hands were stiff from gripping lines and holding on when the sea refused to make things easy.

Someone checked the number again.

Then came the handshake.

Not the quick kind given for a photograph, but the kind that lingered, one hand closing around another as if finishing a conversation that had started miles offshore.

Behind them, the marina carried on. Boats rocked gently. Ropes creaked. Other crews moved along the dock, already talking about tomorrow.

The camera caught the fish, the smiles and the official weight.

It did not catch what almost happened before they returned.

It is not just about the fish. It is about the hands that held the rods, the men who showed up, the friendships formed on the water, and the belief that a small island could host something unforgettable.

What may have felt like another tournament day back then was really a seed being planted.

Years later, that seed has grown into SIBT, a celebration of sport, seamanship, competition, and Caribbean pride.

Some of these men may have passed on, but their contribution still moves with every boat that leaves the harbour.

This is legacy. This is respect. This is SIBT.

654 POUNDS OF HISTORY.

The year was 1999.

The stage was the Carib Beer International Game Fishing Tournament at Pigeon Point, Tobago.

The angler was R. McIntyre aboard LADY R.

The result? A magnificent 654 lb Blue Marlin that established a new tournament record and earned its place among the greatest catches in Caribbean game fishing history.

More than two decades later, it's still remembered as one of those rare moments that remind us why we chase the next bite. 🎣
