Back to the Speed Skydiving competition in Austria, where competitor and officials woke up to another day with low clouds, but after just one hour delay, the sun decided it was time to come out.
The first load of the day took off just after 9:00. The remaining jumps for round 6 were soon completed. We only need another three hours of good weather to complete all rounds in the Open event.
For nearly two decades the Speeds in Speed Skydiving competition were calculated using barometric pressure. This was the pioneering era of Speed Skydiving which saw it grow from the first competitions to being accepted into the ISC (FAI International Skydiving Commission) as an official competition discipline. In 2019, the measurements in Speed Skydiving changed from Barometric to GPS. It was found that at the higher speeds being attained more often by competitors, a greater number of results were inaccurate. The barometric devices were affected by the airflow around the competitor's body at higher speeds.
The change in device has not changed the work of the judges that much, they still analyse the data from the position logging devices to determine performance.

This is the largest Speed Skydiving competition ever, and it's lovely to see the return of competitors who have not competed for a long time. Welcome back!
One of them is Marco Wiederkehr from Switzerland. He started competing in Speed Skydiving in 1999, long before it was an ISC event. He is a former World Champion and multiple-time World Record holder and is now back after a seven-year break at an FAI international competition. Even though he competed last year, this is his First Category Event with the GPS measurement.

The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), is a world organization that is concerned with air Sport competitions, records, including space activities and other certified performances.
FAI unites National air Sports control (NAC) organizations, who administer air Sports activities in their own countries. The NACs, which are members of FAI, when assembled in the annual general conference, are the highest FAI policy making body.
The policies and decisions of the General conference are implemented by FAI executive board and the air Sport commission (ASC). The executive Board ensures that the statutes , bylaws and Sporting code are duly observed. Many countries around the world are members of the FAI and maintain a National Air Sport Control (NAC) to adminster all FAI airsports. Each NAC may send one Delegate and Alternate Delegate to the international skydiving commission(ISC's) Annual Meeting where the current state of the sport is discussed, and its future determined. Check out the link below to learn more about the international skydiving commission (ISC), its role within the sport, and who represents your country at the Annual Meeting 👇

Despite the bad weather report and a morning that started with heavy rain, the sun came out and the first load was up at 8:30.
Due to the bad weather forecast, a round of the regular event was accomplished before the Meet Director decided to get one round of the mixed team event in the air.
Yesterday, we had 10 new international records, both World and Continental, and today, we have four new records in the mixed team event, although the records have not yet been ratified.
Now back to the regular event, with round 5 completed.
