Team Gibraltar - Gibraltar Island Games Association

The GIGA family send our sincere condolences to Fabian’s family and friends. Fabian was a great athlete who took part in the 1987, 1989 and 1991 Island Games. In Aland 1991 he achieved a Silver Medal in 800m and a Bronze in 1500m. Above all Fabian was a great friend with a huge personality who always had time for everyone and made people smile. He took his athletics very seriously and also became a very committed coach. Rest in peace Fabian 🙏❤️

The GIGA EGM and AGM were held last week at the Lathbury Sports Complex. The EGM was mainly to update the Statutes to reflect modern practices such as Safeguarding, accounting practices and eligibility criteria.

At the AGM there were some major changes in the new Committee as Linda Alvarez, who was elected to the International Island Games Association (IIGA) Committee during the Island Games in Orkney in July of this year, stepped aside as GIGA President. Linda has served GIGA as General Secretary and President for 32years. At the AGM she was nominated as Life President of the Association and presented with a Memento in appreciation for her years of Service.

Kim Chang and Melissa Holland also stepped down. Kim was thanked for his great work since 2017 and in particular for his immense role as Games Director during the 2019 Games held in Gibraltar and as Team Manager for the 2023 and 2025 Games.

The newly elected committee is comprised as follows:
President: Harry Murphy
Gen Secretary: Ivan De Haro
Treasurer: Louis Chichon
Committee Members: Wayne Piri, Avelino Baldachino, Louis Baglietto and Kaira Sene.

The committee will now commence working towards the Faroe Islands 2027 - Betri Oyggjaleikir.

GIGA is so sad to hear the news of the the passing of Joe Hernandez, RIP.

Local Sporting legend Joe Hernandez dies aged 71 A passionate athlete during the frontier closure, he played football, volleyball, water polo, and basketball, dedicating himself to the latter from the age of 15 and winning several league titles.

Island Games squash On the last day of the Island Games Orkney 2025 Gibraltar’s squash team took on the Isle of Man and won 4-1 on Friday morning. First to place was Thomas Da Silva who won his game 3-1, next up was Colleen Devincenzi Clemens who won her match 3-2...
