A sad day today for the Grammarians family as we mourn the loss of Darren Olivera, one of our most iconic strikers.

Darren was a prodigious talent, with incomparable close control, a Romario like short burst of speed and a fierce and accurate strike of the ball.

From our recollection, the first in Gibraltar to master the modern reverse hit which is so widely used in today’s game. An asset to any team in need of a goal or creativity, Darren was essential in Grammarians success during his time.

Our generation will never forget his goals en route to a European Cup win in Zagreb, Croatia. In particular a Top D belter against the Irish Champions and a top bins reverse hit from an impossible angle to beat the Hungarians.

Above all, Darren was a great teammate. Warm, fun loving and quick witted, making him a vital ingredient in creating the team spirit and camaraderie enjoyed by the teams of his day.

Grammarians say goodbye to a friend today. You shall forever be in our hearts and memories. Our most sincere condolences to Darren’s family and friends.
We will miss u Darren, un abrazo amigo.

The club is saddened to hear the news of the passing of Jimmy Blackshaw (pictured bottom left). A fellow Grammarian of many moons ago whos legacy was continued long after his retirement by his son Keith for many years. We send Keith and the rest of the family our most sincere condolences.
